NCAC Spring Sports Weekly Releases - (3-6-17)

NCAC spring sports weekly releases for the week ending on Sunday, March 5, which include up-to-date conference standings, weekly schedules, team notes and Player of the Week selections, are now available online.

BASEBALL
While some North Coast baseball teams have opened the season with rare northern games in late February and early March, a majority of the league teams will be kicking off their schedules over the next three weeks on spring break trips in either Arizona or FloridaComplete Release

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Wooster sophomore Mitch Balser (Centerville, OH/Centerville) threw an inbounds pass off of a North Central College defender and buried the ensuing three-pointer with 8.6 seconds remaining to pull the Scots within three, 75-72, but the Fighting Scots had to play catch-up all night, and could never pull ahead during a 77-72 loss to the Cardinals in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament at Collier Arena on the campus of Hanover College in Indiana. Complete Release

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
DePauw saw its season come to a close on Saturday night (3/4) as the Tigers suffered a 64-49 loss against UW-Oshkosh in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Complete Release

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
The 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships are set to take place this weekend, March 10-11, at the Al. B Carius Track on the campus of North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. MENS LACROSSE
Denison (2-1), DePauw (2-1) and Wabash (2-1) are the three NCAC squads over .500 after another week of non-conference play. Going into the final week of non-conference action before league play begins on March 18th, eight of the nine league teams will be in action with a number teams on spring break trips. Complete Release

SOFTBALL
The North Coast softball season is officially underway as four of the league’s nine teams have opened play and three more will open the year this week. Spring break trips continue this week as Kenyon (2-4), and Wittenberg (0-0) travel to Florida, Hiram (0-2) plays in Arizona, Denison (0-0) heads to California and DePauw (1-3) travels to TexasComplete Release

MENS TENNIS
It was a light week on the NCAC men’s tennis circuit with just four of the nine league teams in action, highlighted by Wittenberg (6-0, 0-0) staying perfect on the season by opening its spring break trip in Orlando, Florida, with a 5-4 win over King’s on Sunday. Several other conference squads will head south for spring break trips this week, led by Wabash (6-5, 0-0) making the trek to California for three matches. Complete Release

WOMENS TENNIS
North Coast women’s tennis teams combined to post a 3-2 record in non-conference action last week, led by Denison (0-0, 1-4) picking up its first dual match win of the season with a 9-0 victory at Kalamazoo on Sunday. There are seven total matches on the slate this week, which includes Wittenberg (0-0, 4-5) taking on several out of region opponents on its annual spring break trip in Orlando, Florida. Complete Release
