NCAC Fall Sports Weekly Releases - (9-5-17)

NCAC fall sports weekly releases for the week ending on Sunday, September 3rd, which include up-to-date conference standings, weekly schedules, team notes and Player of the Week selections, are now available online.

CROSS COUNTRY
It was a busy opening weekend on the NCAC Cross Country circuit as all nine league schools were in action at six different events, highlighted by Allegheny and DePauw both sweeping the team titles at the Chatham Cougar Challenge and IWU Titan Opener, respectively. Looking ahead to this weekend, Ohio Wesleyan is hosting Denison, DePauw, Kenyon, Oberlin and Wittenberg for the OWU Invite. Complete Release

FIELD HOCKEY
Kenyon opened up the 2017 season with a pair of victories over Centre and Transylvania, marking the third 2-0 start for the Ladies in the last four years. Conference play opens up Tuesday as Oberlin (1-1, 0-0) travels to Kenyon and continues Wednesday as Wooster (1-0, 0-0) hosts Ohio Wesleyan (1-0, 0-0) and Wittenberg (1-0, 0-0) visits Earlham (0-0, 0-0). Complete Release

FOOTBALL
Eight of the 10 North Coast football squads kicked off the 2017 season last weekend with a combined record of 6-2 against non-conference opponents, highlighted by Allegheny opening the season on Thursday night with a 38-6 win at Thiel. Two of the four games on the slate this Saturday are league contests, including Oberlin hosting Kenyon and Wooster traveling to Allegheny. Complete Release

GOLF
The 2017-18 NCAC men’s golf season kicked off last weekend with seven of the league’s nine teams in action, highlighted by Allegheny winning the team title at Wooster’s Gatorade Collegiate Invitational and Ohio Wesleyan finishing third out of 14 teams at the Transylvania Fall Invitational. Conference teams return to the course this weekend with three events on the schedule, highlighted by Allegheny hosting its annual Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial at Meadville Country Club, Sept. 10-11. Complete Men's Release

The majority of NCAC women’s golf teams opened the 2017-18 season last weekend at Denison’s Lynn Schweizer Invitational, while Ohio Wesleyan was one of three teams to compete at the Ohio Northern Fall Classic. There are just two events on the schedule this weekend, highlighted by Ohio Wesleyan hosting its annual Fall Invitational at the Safari Golf Club in Powell, Ohio. Complete Women's Release

MEN'S SOCCER
The NCAC posted a combined record of 9-8-1 on the opening weekend of the 2017 men’s soccer season, highlighted by Oberlin posting a perfect 2-0 mark for the first time since 2013. This week features a full slate of non-conference games with the first league weekend scheduled for September 23rd with all 10 teams in conference action that day. Complete Release

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Oberlin jumped out to a perfect 2-0 start for the first time since 2008 after outscoring its opponents, 11-1, in the two games with victories against Pitt.-Bradford and Bluffton. Non-conference action continues for North Coast women’s soccer teams this week with games scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Complete Release

VOLLEYBALL
NCAC volleyball teams kicked off the 2017 campaign last weekend with league teams combining for an overall record of 22-12 against non-conference teams in season-opening tournaments across the region, highlighted by No. 11 Wittenberg going 3-0 at its own National Invitational and DePauw posting a 4-0 record at Bluffton’s Sommer Center Spiketacular. League teams return to the courts this weekend with non-conference matches on the schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday, while weekend action will once again feature teams competing at early season tournaments. Complete Release
