North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week 

Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week – Danyon Hempy, Wooster

Wooster’s Danyon Hempy (Waldo, Ohio/River Valley) led the Fighting Scots to a pair of wins last week. The junior scored a team-high 16 points in a 73-65 win over No. 13-ranked Wittenberg on Saturday, giving the Scots their 12th win in the last 15 meetings against their rivals. Hempy secured a career-high nine rebounds against the Tigers. On Wednesday, Hempy was a lights-out 8-for-12 from the floor en route to 19 points against Oberlin in a 78-53 win.

 
Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week – Kristie Kalis, Wittenberg

Wittenberg’s Kristie Kalis (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) continued her hot streak in a matchup against NCAC foe Wooster. The sophomore led the Red and White in scoring (14 pts) and rebounding (9 reb.) as the Tigers went on to take the game, 82-58 from the Fighting Scots. Kalis has scored in double-digits three-of-four games so far this January.


Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week – Kevin Sheridan, Wabash

Kevin Sheridan (Clawson, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) posted two individual victories and was part of a winning relay for Wabash in its 198-63 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University Friday evening. Sheridan won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.92. The junior added an individual victory in the 500 freestyle by finishing in 4:47.17. Sheridan posted the quickest 50-yard freestyle time of his career while swimming the leadoff leg of the Little Giants’ winning 200 freestyle relay team. Sheridan clocked a time of 22.23 over the first 50 yards to help Wabash to a combined time of 1:29.93.

  
Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week – Katherine Douglas, DePauw

DePauw sophomore Katherine Douglas (Coal Valley, Ill./Moline Sr.) broke her own school record in one-meter diving with a score of 442 against Rose-Hulman on Friday. The score also registered as the second-highest in the conference this season. DePauw Women’s Swimming & Diving defeated Rose-Hulman, 216-58.

 
Men's Indoor Track, Distance/Middle Distance Athlete of the Week – Brian Lief, Wooster

Wooster senior Brian Lief (Shaker Hts., Ohio/Shaker Heights) opened the season by winning the 3,000-meter race at the Crimson & Gold January Kick-Off. Lief’s time of 9:34.34 was tops by nearly five seconds.
 
 
Men's Indoor Track, Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week – Ra'Shawn Jones, Wabash

Wabash’s Ra’Shawn Jones (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) broke the Knowling Fieldhouse record and posted the third quickest time in the nation by winning the 60-meter hurdles at Saturday’s Robert H. Johnson Indoor Track and Field Open. Jones raced across the finish line in 8.14 to record his fastest time in the event. He broke the former Fielhouse record of 8.27 seconds set in 2012 and is 1/100th of a second off the fastest times reported this season in Division III in the 60-meter hurdles.
 

Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Hank Sinn, Oberlin

Hank Sinn (Latty, Ohio/Wayne Trace) bested his own school record in the event at Oberlin’s first home meet of his senior campaign. The Latty, Ohio, native heaved the weight 16.44m (53-11.25), besting his previous mark of 52-10.25 from the 2017 NCAC Indoor Championships. The senior also went on to win the shot put with a career-best toss of 13.95m (45-09.25). Both marks top the conference performance list and the weight throw ranks 29th in Division III.

 
Women's Indoor Track, Distance/Middle Distance Athlete of the Week – Erica VanHoose, Ohio Wesleyan

Erica VanHoose (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) anchored the Bishops 4,000-meter medley relay team, which won in 13:37.83, at the Ron Althoff Relays meet. She also anchored the winning 1,600-meter sprint medley relay team, which won in 4:47.85.


Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Chase Patton, Ohio Wesleyan

Ohio Wesleyan’s Chase Patton (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) registered a first-place finish in the pole vault at the Ron Althoff Relays meet, clearing 3.37 meters (11’ 0.75”) on Friday, Jan. 11. She also helped the Bishops to a victory in the 800-meter relay, clocking in at 1:50.43. Ohio Wesleyan won the tri-meet over Mount Vernon Nazarene and Ohio Christian.
 


NCAC Milestones & Records (Jan. 7 - Jan. 13)

DePauw, Swimming & Diving - DePauw sophomore Katherine Douglas (Coal Valley, Ill./Moline Sr.) broke her own school record in one-meter diving with a score of 442.0 against Rose-Hulman on Friday.

Wooster, Indoor Track & Field - Wooster junior Spencer Wilson (Huntsburg, Ohio/Hawken School) broke the school record in the weight throw (49 feet, 10.5 inches) on Friday at the Crimson & Gold January Kick-Off.

Oberlin, Indoor Track & Field - Hank Sinn (Latty, Ohio/Wayne Trace) bested his own school record in the first home meet of his senior campaign. The Latty, Ohio, native heaved the weight 16.44m (53-11.25), besting his previous mark of 52-10.25 from the 2017 NCAC Indoor Championships.

Oberlin, Indoor Track & Field - Adriano Atallah (New Rochelle, N.Y./Regis) broke the school record in the 60-meter dash Friday evening at the Crimson & Gold January Kick-Off. The sophomore bested Shawn Chrapczynski’s school record (7.16) from 2012, crossing the line in 7.14 seconds which is the second best time in the NCAC this season.
