North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week 

Baseball, Player of the Week – Gage Carpenter, Wittenberg

Wittenberg second baseman, Gage Carpenter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills), slugged a pair of extra-base hits in the Tigers 8-5 season-opening victory at Earlham. Carpenter produced a double, a triple, two walks and a sacrifice fly in his five plate appearances. The sophomore ended the day with three RBI. 

Baseball, Pitcher of the Week – Tanner Griggs, Wittenberg

Wittenberg sophomore Tanner Griggs (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) picked up the pitching victory in an 8-5 season-opening win at Earlham. The right-hander tossed four innings of six-hit, three-run ball, striking out four batters.

Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Jayson Blankenship, Ohio Wesleyan

Ohio Wesleyan junior Jayson Blankenship (Medina, Ohio/Medina) won the heptathlon with 4,450 total points. The junior finished first in the pole vault (4.45m; 14’ 7.25”), claimed fourth place in the 60 meter dash (7.49), the shot put (10.07m; 33’ 0.5”), the high jump (1.73m; 5’ 8”) and the 1,000 meter run (2:56.00), took sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.19) and earned eighth in the long jump (5.69; 18’ 8”). This marks the ninth consecutive year in which a Battling Bishop has won the NCAC men’s indoor multi-event title. Andrew Diehl won the pentathlon in 2011 and the heptathlon in 2012, followed by Matt Hunter (2013-15) and Nate Newman (2016-18).

Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Carolyn Webster, Wooster

Wooster senior Carolyn Webster (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) won the pentathlon for the second time in her career (2017) with 3,229 points. She finished first in the 60 meter hurdles (9.70), the high jump (1.55m; 5’ 1”) and the long jump (5.44m; 17’ 10.25”) and placed third in both the shot put (9.91m; 32’ 6.25”) and the 800 meter run (2:39.77) to earn the event victory.

Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week – Pascal Lee, Kenyon

Pascal Lee (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) came up big as the Lords played quality competition during the Mary Washington Invitational. Lee clinched the match versus No. 23 Sewanee before giving the No. 14 Lords another win in his match-sealer vs. #20 Mary Washington. Lee pushed his singles record to 3-0 following a comfortable, 6-2, 6-3, win against Arjun Krishnan from Stevens. Since being inserted into the starting lineup, he has yet to lose (4-0). Additionally, Lee and teammate Jacob Zalenski won two of three doubles matches during the invitational.

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week – Amanda Showalter, DePauw

DePauw Amanda Showalter (Centerville, Ohio/Achbishop Alter) helped the Tigers post two victories on Saturday, 8-1 over Principia, and 5-2 over Indiana Wesleyan. Showalter went 4-0 on the day including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Principia’s Brittany Duke in No. 4 singles. Showalter improved her singles record to 6-8 and moved her doubles record to 10-7.

Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week – Griffin Cappelletti, Oberlin

Oberlin sophomore Griffin Cappelletti (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Loyola) had a career-day in Oberlin’s 15-6 season-opening win at Thiel College. The attackman posted a game- and career-high three goals, while also  dishing out a game-  and career-best three assists in the victory over the Tomcats. In addition to his six points, Cappelletti also snagged two ground balls and caused a turnover.

Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week – Emma Lawrence, Wooster

Wooster senior Emma Lawrence (Wilbraham, Mass./Williston-Northhampton) recorded in a team-high six points on four goals and two assists as the Fighting Scots downed Capital 18-7 in the season lid-lifter on Saturday. Lawrence delivered an all-around effort with four groundballs, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers to supplement her offensive efforts.
