Marcus Davenport, Allegheny

Meadville, Pa. - After a dominant performance in the Gators' 25-17 win over Ohio Wesleyan, Allegheny senior Marcus Davenport has been named to the Team of the Week.

The Gator defensive lineman had a big hand in the Allegheny win, as he finished with eight tackles, including 5.0 for loss and 2.0 quarterback sacks. The 5.0 TFLs accounted for 22 yards, and are the most in a single game by an Allegheny defender since the statistic was officially tracked beginning in 2001. Each of Davenport's first four tackles in the victory came behind the line of scrimmage, highlighted by a three-yard loss on third-and-goal from inside the one yardline in the opening minutes of the second quarter that forced the Battling Bishops to settle for a field goal. On Ohio Wesleyan's final possession of the first half, Davenport recorded his first sack of the day, good for a loss of eight yards, while his second quarterback takedown of the game occurred in the fourth quarter, a seven-yard loss on second down that would eventually lead to an Ohio Wesleyan punt.

Through the first four games of the season, Davenport has totaled 26 tackles, and leads the North Coast Athletic Conference in both sacks (4.5) and tackles for loss (9.0).

The Team of the Week recognizes the top performers from across the country each week at each position, and is selected by a panel of media and sports information personnel.  Davenport is the second Gator to be recognized with the weekly honor this season, joining junior wide receiver Alex Victorwho was honored following week one

The Gators, who are 2-2 on the season and 2-1 in NCAC play, return to action this Saturday, September 29, with a 1 p.m. date at Hiram.
