Kenyon Earns Three NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced its 2018-19 winter Postgraduate Scholarship winners and three Kenyon swimmers, Brooks McCoy (Greenville, SC/St. Joseph’s), Hannah Orbach-Mandel (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) and Abby Wilson (Westerville, OH/Columbus Academy) were among the recipients.  

Selected from a pool that spanned all three NCAA divisions, each scholarship winner receives a one-time, nonrenewable grant of $10,000. Each sports season (fall, winter, spring) there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

McCoy majored in economics and was a 2019 team captain for the Lords. The senior plans to use his scholarship at the University of Georgia Law School. McCoy was a four-year member of the of the Kenyon swim team and was a three-time NCAA qualifier. Specializing in distance events, he won three career NCAA All-America awards and one All-NCAC honor.

Orbach-Mandel was a 25-time NCAA All-American and an economics major at Kenyon. She made four-straight trips to the NCAA Championships and won three national relay titles over the past two seasons. She was an eight-time NCAC champion and a 14-time all-conference honoree. Orbach-Mandel was named Kenyon's 2019 NCAC Scholar-Athlete award winner and was selected as Kenyon's nominee for the NCAC Pam Smith Woman of the Year Nominee. With the scholarship, she plans to study sports business in graduate school.

Wilson studied molecular biology at Kenyon and plans to move on to medical school. Wilson was a 19-time NCAA All-American with two national relay titles. At the conference level, she earned six NCAC event championship titles and was a 16-time All-NCAC honoree. Wilson was one of Kenyon's Falkenstine Award winners for integrity and leadership as well as the Stephen E. Bennett Memorial Award winner for devotion to training and competition.

The three Kenyon Swimming & Diving student-athletes join Ohio Wesleyan Men’s Soccer’s Nicholas Norman (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) and DePauw Volleyball’s Suzanne Peters (Fort Wayne, IN/Homestead) as recipients of NCAA scholarships this season. Norman and Peters were announced earlier this season as fall recipients. In total, 181 conference student-athletes, 96 men and 85 women, have received NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships since 1984.
