North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week – Jan. 13


Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Jake Bertemes, Wittenberg

Wittenberg senior Jake Bertemes (Springfield, OH/Southeastern) helped the Tigers to a pair of road victories last week. The guard tallied a season-high 21 points along with six assists and four rebounds in a win over Hiram, while also notching 11 points and six assists against Denison. On the week, he shot 68.8 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 75 percent from downtown (3-of-4).


Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Zyah Beal, Denison

Denison junior Zyah Beal (Florence, KY/Boone County) played a large role in the Big Red’s pair of road victories last week. She began the week with 17 points and four steals against the Kenyon Ladies before issuing 10 points and eight rebounds against Ohio Wesleyan. On the week, she was 11-of-21 from the floor (52.4%) and 5-of-6 from the free throw line (83.3%).


Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week – Hunter Jones, Wabash 

Wabash senior Hunter Jones (Champaign, IL/Central) set a new pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke at Friday’s dual meet at Illinois Wesleyan. He won the event with a time of 2:06.98, his second-quickest effort in the event this season. Jones also won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.86 for his fastest time of the season and participated on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:41.37) to open the meet for the Little Giants. Wabash defeated IWU by a score of 224-53.


Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week – Madison Whitman, Wooster

Wooster junior Madison Whitman (Wooster, OH/Wooster) won three individual events during Saturday’s double-dual meet against NCAC rivals Oberlin and Wittenberg. Whitman was first to the finish in the 200 individual medley (2:18.89), the 500 freestyle (5:38.72), and the 1000 freestyle (11:39.68). She won the 500 freestyle by over 15 seconds. 


Men's Indoor Track, Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week – William McMichael, Wooster

Wooster sophomore William McMichael (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) won the 400-meter dash by over two seconds at Friday’s Dan Kinsey Invitational. McMichael crossed at 53.48.


Men's Indoor Track, Distance/Mid-Distance Athlete of the Week – Sam Mader, Oberlin

Oberlin’s Sam Mader (Washington, DC/Washington Latin) helped lead the Yeomen charge at the Dan Kinsey Invitational with a win in the 800-meter run. The junior completed the trek in 2:02.54 which ranks fourth in the conference so far this season.


Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Zac Ntia, Oberlin

Oberlin sophomore Zac Ntia (Wooster, OH/Wooster) turned in a career-best performance in the weight throw at the Dan Kinsey Invitational, ripping off a winning toss of 51-01.06 (15.58m) to best the field by nearly five feet. The throw was the second-best conference mark so far this season. He also finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 40-00.50 (12.20m).


Women's Indoor Track, Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week – Grace Hayes, Oberlin

Oberlin sophomore Grace Hayes (Sagamore Hills, OH/Trinity) notched the fourth-best 60-meter dash conference mark this season at the Dan Kinsey Invitational. The sophomore clocked in a second-place finish of 8.37 seconds.


Women's Indoor Track, Distance/Middle Distance Athlete of the Week – Oona Jung-Beeman, Oberlin

Oberlin’s Oona Jung-Beeman (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) made her first appearance of the indoor season at the Dan Kinsey Invitational. The senior cruised to a five-second victory in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:21.56, the eighth-best mark in Division III this season.


Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Naeisha McClain, Oberlin

Senior Naeisha McClain (Columbus, GA/Brookstone) headlined the Yeowomen effort at Oberlin’s own Dan Kinsey Invitational with a pair of convincing victories in the shot put and weight throw. McClain moved into 10th in the country in the shot put with a winning heave of 43-06 (13.26m).  The senior’s toss of 50-05.25 (15.37m) in the weight throw also ranks 20th in the country.

 


 

NCAC Milestones & Records (Jan. 7 - Jan. 13)

DePauw, Women’s Basketball - Tiger senior Sydney Kopp (Burr Ridge, IL/Hinsdale South) moved into fourth place on DePauw’s all-time scoring list with 1,397 points.

Oberlin, Men’s Basketball - Senior Andre Campbell (San Francisco, CA/Urban School) became the 27th player in school history to score 1,000 career points, coming in Wednesday’s 89-80 victory over Ohio Wesleyan.  

Wooster, Women’s Swimming & Diving - The Fighting Scots women’s swimming & diving team has now won 21 consecutive dual meets after Saturday’s 224-62 win over Oberlin, coupled with a 200-61 win over Wittenberg.
