North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week – Dec. 16
Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Joshua Friedkin, Oberlin
Oberlin senior Joshua Friedkin (Emeryville, CA/Albany) became the 26th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points, doing so in grand fashion against previously unbeaten Defiance. His go-ahead three-pointer with 25 seconds to play not only gave the Yeomen a 70-69 lead and the win, but it also lifted his career points total to 1,001. He finished the game with a team-high 17 points to go along with four assists.
Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Claire Sterling, Ohio Wesleyan
Ohio Wesleyan senior Claire Sterling (West Jefferson, OH/West Jefferson) hit a three-pointer that opened up a double-digit Battling Bishop lead in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 84-74 win over Wooster. She also went 4-for-4 from the free throw line during the final 30 seconds to seal the outcome, ending with 27 points, a career-high nine assists and seven rebounds.
Men's Indoor Track, Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week – Kofi Asare, Oberlin
Oberlin sophomore Kofi Asare (Berlin, NJ/Regis) had a career-best time of 23.63 in the 200-meter dash at the Tiffin Alumni Open. He finished 12th overall out of 24 entrants and third among Division III athletes.
Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Kofi Asare, Oberlin
Oberlin sophomore Kofi Asare (Berlin, NJ/Regis) moved among the top 10 in conference long jump marks with a leap of 6.11 meters at the Tiffin Almuni Open. Asare was the second-highest Division III finisher, coming home 12th out of 23 participants.
Women's Indoor Track, Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week – Clare Tiedemann, Oberlin
Oberlin sophomore Clare Tiedemann (New York, NY/Grace Church School) had three personal-best performances at the Tiffin Alumni Open, posting the fifth-best conference mark in the long jump (4.94m), while also recording the fourth-best time in the NCAC in the 200 meters at 28.11. She also took a crack at the shot put on this day, posting a mark of 6.62 meters.
Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Sarah Voit, Oberlin
Former outdoor All-American Sarah Voit (Cincinnati, OH/McCauley) made her first appearance of the season and picked up right where she left off, besting her own school record at the Tiffin Alumni Open in the pole vault with a mark of 3.79 meters, which currently ranks third in the nation. The sophomore’s previous-best indoor clearance was 3.70 meters.
NCAC Milestones & Records (Dec. 9 - Dec. 15)
