North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week – Sept. 3
Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week – Vincent Lewis, Kenyon
Kenyon senior Vincent Lewis (Chicago, IL/St. Ignatius Prep) claimed first among 76 runners as the Lords hosted a quad meet with Denison, Ohio Wesleyan and Mount Vernon Nazarene. He finished the 5,000-meter course in 16:32.0, which was nine seconds faster than the runner-up.
Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week – Oona Jung-Beeman, Oberlin
Oberlin senior Oona Jung-Beeman (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) secured a winning time of 14:45.8 at the season-opening Wooster Invitational. She was the only runner with an average mile time of sub six-minutes, averaging 5:55.7 per mile over the 4,000-meter trek.
Field Hockey Athlete of the Week – Madisyn Bunke, Ohio Wesleyan
Ohio Wesleyan freshman Madisyn Bunke (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Central) recorded a hat trick in her Battling Bishop collegiate debut, helping OWU to a 4-0 victory over Houghton on Friday. She also scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Nazareth on Saturday. Both goals were game-winners for the freshman."
Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week – Tyler Pham, Allegheny
Allegheny sophomore Tyler Pham (Pembroke Pines, FL/The Sagemont School) brought home the individual title at the Olivet Invitational, shooting rounds of 71 (-1) and 72 (E) for a total of 143 (-1). He was the only golfer to finish under par and his performance helped lead the team to a first-place finish among 13 teams at the invitational.
Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week – Anna Foley, DePauw
DePauw senior Anna Foley (Toronto, Ontario/Humberside Collegiate Institute) tied for second at Denison’s Lynn Schweizer Invitational after shooting a 153 (75-78). Foley’s performance helped the No. 6-ranked Tigers to their first victory of the season, combining for a two-round score of 643. The top-five finish is Foley’s seventh in her career.
Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week – Keagan Le'Roux, Hiram
Hiram freshman Keagan Le’Roux (Randburg, Gateng/Western Reserve Academy) tallied a goal in his collegiate debut at Defiance on Friday, helping the Terriers win by a 3-2 margin. Le’Roux also notched two goals in a 5-1 victory over Edgewood on Saturday.
Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week – Holly Thompson, Wooster
Wooster sophomore Holly Thompson (West Chester, OH/Lakota East) recorded the first multi-goal game of her career on Sunday at Adrian. The sophomore scored both Fighting Scot goals as they tied the Bulldogs, 2-2. Wooster also took a 1-0 victory at Marietta on Friday. Thompson’s two goals currently leads the confernce through week one.
Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week – Maura Gibbs, Oberlin
Senior Maura Gibbs (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) helped the Yeowomen get off to a 3-1 start at the St. Vincent College Bearcat Challenge as she earned all-tournament team laurels. Gibbs did a little bit of everything for the Yeowomen, totaling 44 kills and 49 digs over the 12 total sets she played. The Wallingford, PA, product dropped in six aces while averaging 3.67 kills and 4.08 digs per set.
NCAC Milestones & Records (Aug. 26 – Sept. 2)
Wooster, Men’s Golf - Wooster’s Evan Ferrara (Kent, OH/Roosevelt) opened his senior season with a five-under par 67 on Saturday at the Gatorade Collegiate. It’s the lowest round by a Wooster golfer since at least 1985.
Wooster, Swimming & Diving - Wooster sophomore Molly Likins (Saint Clair, MI/Saint Clair) won silver medals in the 50 and 100 meter breaststrokes at last week’s World Deaf Swimming Championships in Brazil. Likins lowered two of her USA Deaf LCM records, and broke two other records at the week-long championships.
