Junior Michael Wielansky's (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) monster week at the plate landed the second-ranked College of Wooster baseball team's shortstop on the D3baseball.com Team-of-the-Week, it was announced on Tuesday (4/24) morning.
Wielansky did it all at the plate during a 5-1 week for the Fighting Scots, as the junior slashed .655/.688/1.172, went 19-for-29 with nine extra base hits, scored 16 times and knocked in 13 runs.
He has now hit safely in 12 straight games and had three games with at least four base knocks last week, including five during the Scots' 24-14 non-conference win at Muskingum University last Friday. The St. Louis, Mo. native added five RBI against the Fighting Muskies for his second straight five-RBI performance.
Wielansky moved into the program's top-10 list for career runs during the first game of Wooster's sweep over Oberlin College last week Wednesday, and he scored at least three runs in each of the first four contest on last week's docket.
Wielansky previously earned a spot on D3baseball.com's Team of the Week as a rookie in 2016 for his play against Kenyon College, John Carroll University, and Oberlin.
In addition to being named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, Wielansky was also the honorable mention selection for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Div. III National Hitter of the Week. NYU's Colman Hendershot earned the National Hitter of the Week award after batting .565 (13-for-23) with six homers and 15 RBI in five games for the Violets last week.
Noteworthy, Wielansky's honor marks the fifth time Wooster's had a representative on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week this year. Sophomore Dan Harwood (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) has earned three weekly honors, and he was joined on the weekly team by senior Drew Tornow (Painesville, OH/Riverside) on April 10.
Wooster (25-4) is back in action at No. 12 Case (25-6) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25.
