After finishing the season in a tie for third place in the NCAC regular seson race, Wabash (28-15) earned the program's second NCAC Baseball Tournament title and the league's automatic bid into 2018 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament after posting a 17-8 win over top-seeded Wooster (36-8) in the tournament title game on Saturday afternoon at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
The Little Giants opened the tournament on Thursday evening with a 4-2 win over second-seeded Denison (32-10) and advanced to the championship game on Friday afternoon with a 7-3 win over Wooster. The Little Giants' pitching staff carried them to the perfect 3-0 record in the tournament, striking out 20 and allowing just 10 earned runs over 27.0 total innings of tournament baseball.
In winning the conference tournament, Wabash head coach Jake Martin '03 is now the first coach in NCAC history to win the league tournament at two different schools as he also guided the DePauw Tigers to the tournament championship in 2014.
The Fighting Scots opened the tournament on Thursday afternoon with an 8-1 win over fourth-seeded Kenyon (16-18), before entering the losers bracket with the 7-3 setback against Wabash on Friday afternoon. However, the Scots got themselves back into the championship round for the seventh year in a row with a 4-2 win over over Denison on Friday night.
After hitting .538 (7-for-13) with one triple, one double, two RBI and four runs scored in the three tournament games, Wabash senior Bryce Aldridge (Bloomington, IN/North) was named the Tournament MVP.

After winning its league-leading 18th North Coast baseball title with a 16-2 record in conference play this season, Wooster (16-2, 34-6) has earned the top seed in the 2018 NCAC Baseball Tournament, which will be played this weekend, May 10-13, at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. Please note, if Wabash advances to the championship round (games 6 and 7), the Sunday rain date cannot be used due to Wabash College's commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 13th.
Wooster, which also leads the league with 13 NCAC baseball tournament titles, will open play in the tournament on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against fourth-seeded Kenyon (10-8, 16-16). In the other opening round game on Thursday, second-seeded Denison (15-3, 31-8) will square off against third-seeded Wabash (10-8, 25-15) at 8:30 p.m. Both opening-round games will be rematches of the final weekend of the regular season that saw the Fighting Scots and Lords play to a 1-1 split and the Big Red earn a pair of wins at Wabash on May 5th.
The double elimination tournament continues on Friday afternoon with the winners of Thursday's first two contests squaring off at 12:00 p.m. with a slot in the championship round on the line, while the losers of Thursday's first two games will meet on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in an elimination game.
The final slot in the championship round will be determined on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. with the winner of game four taking on the loser of game three. The first championship game will be played on Saturday or Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with game seven set for 30 minutes following the conclusion of game six.
While Wooster leads the league with 18 NCAC baseball titles, Ohio Wesleyan has captured 10 conference crowns, Allegheny owns four and the trio of DePauw, Oberlin and Wabash all have one title apiece. The only shared title came in 1985 when the Fighting Scots and Gators shared the crown in the NCAC's inaugural season.
