Allegheny senior shortstop Austin Bristol (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Wabash senior catcher Erich Lange (Hamilton, OH/Fairfield) have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Division III Academic All-District Baseball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Lange is a political science and German double-major with a 3.91 cumulative grade point average. He led the Wabash baseball squad this season with a .393 batting average to rank eighth in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Lange finished the season with a .625 slugging percentage and .489 on-base percentage, both tops among Wabash players in 2019. He also led the team in RBI with 39 and tied for the team lead with five home runs. Lange was part of a senior class that won 92 games in four seasons, the most by a group of players over the span of four years in school history. The Little Giants finished 21-19 in 2019 and earned their fourth trip to the NCAC Baseball Tournament since joining the league.
In the classroom, Bristol carried a 3.80 grade-point average as a computer science major with double minors in economics and mathematics. He graduated as a Distinguished Alden Scholar, member of Chi Alpha Sigma and the NCAC Academic Honor Roll. On the field, he led the team and ranked among the league leaders with a .376 batting average, 50 hits and 12 stolen bases as the team's primary lead-off hitter. He also ranked second on the team with a .449 on-base percentage, placing him in the top 20 of the NCAC.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (when selected) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
The Division III Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
