Denison (16-1-0, 12-1-0), DePauw (14-4-0, 12-1-0) and Kenyon (11-6-0, 9-4-0) have all earned spots in the 2013 NCAC Field Hockey Tournament heading into the final week of the regular season. Wooster (9-8-0, 7-6-0) and Wittenberg (8-10-0, 6-7-0) both remain alive for the final spot and play huge conference contests this week, with the Scots host Kenyon on Saturday and the Tigers traveling to DePauw on Friday.

DENISON improved to 5-0 in overtime contests after a pair of extra session wins over Wooster and Kenyon. The team has won 12-straight contests, one shy of the school-record for consecutive wins set in 1980. Denison was listed in the “others receiving votes” column of the most recent NFHCA Top-20 Division III poll.

DEPAUW picked up two more NCAC victories with wins over Earlham and Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers dominated Earlham offensively, outshooting the Quakers, 37-5. Tigers goals were scored by Maggie Campbell (Winnetka, IL/New Trier) (2), Paige Henry (Louisville, KY/Kentucky Country Day) (3), Laynie Thomas (Columbus, OH/Columbus School for Girls) (2), Chelsea Cutler (Victoria, B.C./Mt. Douglas Secondary) (2) and Kate Jovanovic (St. Charles, MO/Barat Academy). DePauw dominated offensively once again in a 6-1 victory over Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers outshot the Bishops, 29-2, and had goals scored by Henry (2), Micheline Figel (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park River Forest), Campbell (2) and Cutler.

EARLHAM dropped a pair of NCAC contests last week, falling to DePauw, 10-0, before a 7-1 setback against Wittenberg on Saturday.

KENYON split two conference games last week. Goals from Maddie Breschi (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) and Julie Freedman (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) did not hold up in a 3-2 overtime loss to Denison on Saturday, but four goals and an assist from Breschi resulted in a 5-0 win at Oberlin on Sunday. The win at Oberlin secured the Ladies a third-place finish in the regular season and a spot in the upcoming NCAC Tournament. The 11-point week for Breschi gives her 40 points on the season, which ties the Kenyon single-season record.

OBERLIN dropped three contests last week, including two in North Coast action. The Yeowomen are now 4-13 overall and 3-10 in NCAC play as they head into the final week of the regular season.

OHIO WESLEYAN fell to 5-11 on the year with league losses against Wittenberg, 2-1, and DePauw, 6-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Karson Stevenson (Aurora, CO/Grandview) recorded seven saves in the cage for the Bishops on the week.

With a 2-1 win at Ohio Wesleyan and a 7-1 Senior Day victory vs. Earlham,  WITTENBERG went 2-0 this week, led by three goals from junior Beth Warning (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame), including the first against the Battling Bishops and two in front of a home crowd versus the Quakers. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Brownell (Ocnomowoc, WI/University Lake School) made 11 saves (.846) in the two games.

WOOSTER split a pair of conference contests last week, falling to Denison, 2-1, before knocking off Oberlin by the score of 6-1. Leah Prescott (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) was part of three of Wooster’s six scores in the win over Oberlin, scoring two goals and assisting on another.
