Kenyon (8-0, 11-1) and DePauw (7-1, 8-3) continue to sit at the top of the NCAC field hockey standings with three full weeks left in the conference schedule. Seven NCAC games are scheduled this week, beginning with Denison (6-2, 8-4) visiting Ohio Wesleyan (4-4, 6-6) on Thursday and ending with DePauw traveling to Oberlin (0-8, 1-11) on Sunday.
DENISON improved to 6-2 in conference play following victories over Wooster, 5-3, and Oberlin, 3-0, last week. Freshman Lucy Pearsall (Chicago, IL/Latin School of Chicago) scored four goals, including her first-career hat trick against Wooster, while senior Elsie Humes (Greenwood Village, CO/Cherry Creek) scored twice. Freshman goalie Ellen Westfall (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) collected 10 saves in the two wins.
DEPAUW went 2-0 last week with a 10-1 win over Earlham on Wednesday and a 4-3 OT win over Wittenberg on Saturday. Paige Berliner (New Albany, OH/Columbus Academy) scored one goal and recorded two assists in Wednesday’s contest and scored two goals, including the game-winner, on Saturday.
EARLHAM dropped both its NCAC contests last week, falling to DePauw, 10-1, on Wednesday and then 4-0 to Ohio Wesleayan on Saturday. The Quakers return to action on Friday at Wooster.
KENYON has won nine in a row after picking up a pair of road wins last week at Wooster and Oberlin. In four NCAC road games this season, Kenyon has allowed just one goal. Senior Maddie Breschi (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) scored twice and added two assists against Oberlin. Breschi is tied for the NCAC lead with 11 goals and 28 points. The Ladies host Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg this week.
OBERLIN went down to Denison, 3-0, on Saturday before dropping their eighth-straight NCAC match to Kenyon, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Yeowomen host Earlham and DePauw this coming weekend as they continue the second leg of NCAC action.
OHIO WESLEYAN went 1-2 last week, falling to Wittenberg and non-conference opponent Rhodes around a win over Earlham on Saturday. In the win over the Quakers, senior forward Montana Knapp (San Diego, CA/Patrick Henry) and freshman forward Alexis Roberts (Louisville, KY/Christian Academy) registered a goal and an assist each to lead the Bishops. Ohio Wesleyan returns to action on Tuesday as the Bishops host Denison.
WITTENBERG went 1-1 last week, with a 3-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan and a 4-3 overtime loss to DePauw. Freshman Blaine Donnelly (Hanover, MD/Archbishop Spalding) scored two goals in the Tigers’ heartbreaking overtime loss to DePauw. Wittenberg scored a total of six goals in the two games, with five different players getting credit for at least one.
WOOSTER lost a pair of home games to two of the top-three teams in the conference, 5-3 to Denison and 6-0 to Kenyon. Rachel Wetzel (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) assisted on one score and converted a penalty stroke for a goal on the offensive end and also recorded a defensive save in the loss to Denison.
