The top three teams in the NCAC standings are all currently riding impressive win streaks, led by Denison (11-3-0, 8-2-0) with nine, Wittenberg (11-3-0, 8-2-0) with six and Kenyon (12-2-0, 9-1-0) three. Teams will be battling for a spot in the NCAC Tournament with two weeks remaining in the regular season schedule, highlighted by Wittenberg visiting Denison on Saturday.
DENISON went 2-0 last week, defeating Wooster, 5-1, at home, and traveling to Oberlin to shut out the Yeowomen, 10-0. The Big Red have now won nine-straight matches, and their 10-0 win over Oberlin was the most goals scored in a match by DU since Oct.11, 2012 when they defeated Bethany College (W.Va.), 10-0. Sophomore Charlotte Happel (Louisville, KY/Louisville Collegiate) led the team with five goals on eight shots on the week, including three goals against Oberlin.
DEPAUW split a pair of games last week, defeating Ohio Wesleyan, 3-2, and falling to Kenyon 1-0. Cathy Zesiger (Oklahoma City, OK/Casady School), Rose Revolinski (Milwaukee, WI/University School of Milwaukee) and Reilly Bruce (Chicago, ILFrancis Parker) each scored in the win. The Tigers are 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the conference. They host Oberlin and Wooster next weekend in their final homestand.
EARLHAM best Ohio Wesleyan, 3-1, for the second time this season on Sunday. Maite Turlings (Heemstede, Netherlands/Coornhert Lyceam) scored twice in the win to push her team-leading point total to 18.
KENYON maintained its first-place spot in the conference by chalking up two more wins over the weekend. Saturday, the Ladies posted a 3-0 win over Earlham. Sunday, they got by DePauw, 1-0. Senior Katelyn Hutchinson (Pottstown, PA/St. George’s School) scored the game-winner in both the games and leads the Ladies with 11 goals this season.
OBERLIN went 0-2 last week as they lost to Denison by a score of 10-0 on Friday and fell 7-1 to Wittenberg on Sunday. Scoring the lone goal of the week was sophomore Luisa McGarvey (Takoma Park, MD/Montgomery Blaire). Defensively, freshman Molly Thayer (Belmont, MA) recorded a defensive save in each game and junior goalkeeper Kennedy Kline (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) tallied 24 saves bringing her season total to 185.
OHIO WESLEYAN dropped a pair of NCAC contests last week, falling to DePauw on Saturday and Earlham on Sunday. Erin Greer (Dayton/Oakwood), Jamie Grant (Falls Church, VA/Stuart) and Ashley Barno (Bexley, OH/Bexley) each registered a goal for the Bishops and Alycia Goins (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) finished with 24 saves in two games.
WITTENBERG rattled off its sixth-straight victory with wins over Wooster and Oberlin last weekend. The Tigers were led by Audrey Coler (Cincinnati, OH/Ursuline Academy) with three goals and one assist in the two victories. She now leads the team with 28 points on the year. The six game winning streak is the longest since Wittenberg won eight-straight in 2010.
WOOSTER junior Erika Womack (Schwenksville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) upped her team lead in goals to eight on the year during the Fighting Scots’ 6-2 setback versus rival Wittenberg on Saturday. Earlier in the week, senior Lauren Abbott (South Lyon, MI/Greenhills School) scored her fourth goal of the year to move into a three-way tie for second on the team in points (14).
