Kenyon (14-2-0, 11-1-0), Denison (13-3-0, 10-2-0), Wittenberg (11-5-0, 8-4-0) and DePauw (10-6-0, 8-4-0) have all earned spots in the 2017 NCAC Field Hockey Tournament heading into the final week of the regular season. The complete tournament bracket will be available following the conclusion of Saturday’s contest.
DENISON went 2-0 on the week, defeating Ohio Wesleyan, 4-2, on Thursday and then Wittenberg, 7-2, on Saturday. The Big Red were led by freshman Charlotte Godfrey (Denver, CO/Cherry Creek) who totaled four goals in the two games on 14 shots, and now has eight goals on the season. Denison has now won 11-straight matches, their best since they won 13-straight in 2013.
DEPAUW collected a pair of shutouts with a 9-0 win over Oberlin and a 2-0 win over Wooster. Helping in the effort was senior defender Grace Waldman (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins), who collected three assists between the two games. The Tigers are 10-6 overall, 8-4 in the NCAC and will conclude the season this week with games at Wittenberg and Earlham.
EARLHAM has won three-straight NCAC contests after victories against Wooster and Oberlin last week. Megan Hut (Tiel, Netherlands/RSG Lingcollege) led the Quakers with two goals and two assists on the week. Hut has three goals during the current win streak.
KENYON notched a couple of 2-1 wins last week to maintain its first-place spot in the conference standings. Saturday the Ladies defeated Ohio Wesleyan on the road, Sunday they returned to McBride Filed to finish off Wittenberg. Senior Shannon Hart (Mandara, Harare, Zimbabwe/Hellenic Academy) scored a goal in both games, including the game-winner against Wittenberg.
OBERLIN dropped a pair of NCAC contests on its annual Indiana trip, falling to DePauw, 9-0, and Earlham, 2-0. Junior goalkeeper Kennedy Kline (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) tallied 19 saves on the week. Oberlin hosts Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 and travels to Wooster for its final game of the year for a 11 a.m. start.
OHIO WESLEYAN dropped a pair of NCAC contests last week, falling to Denison on Thursday and Kenyon on Saturday. Junior forward Alexis Roberts (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) scored a pair of goals in the losses and now leads the Bishops with 11 goals on the year.
WITTENBERG dropped two road matches this weekend, falling to Denison on Saturday, 7-2. The Tigers would battle the Ladies of Kenyon on Sunday, suffering the 2-1 defeat.
WOOSTER first-year Sydney Schuster (Ann Arbor, MI/Skyline) scored her sixth goal of the season to move into a tie for second on the team during Saturday’s 3-1 setback at Earlham. Classmate Katie Shideler (Gibsonia, PA/North Allegheny) logged her seventh double-digit save game of the year during Sunday’s 2-0 loss at DePauw, and she remains in second-place in the league in saves heading into the final week of the season.
