Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin College Associate Vice President for Athletics Advancement and Delta Lodge Director of Athletics & Physical Education Natalie Winkelfoos announced the appointment of Jess West as the interim head field hockey coach for the 2019 season.

West, who served as an assistant coach last season, was active in all phases of the program as she implemented new strategies in game planning and practice preparation. Away from the field, she also assisted in the recruitment of six incoming first-year players to this year's team.

"I am truly honored to be named head coach of the 2019 Yeowomen," West said. "I am looking forward to the continued development and improvement of our program to create a winning culture on and off the field. I am excited to take on this new leadership role to help with the growth of young student-athletes while building strong community relationships."

In additional to her time at Oberlin, West has coaching experience at the high school and club levels.

"Jess's personality and passion are a solid fit for our program," Winkelfoos said. "She has the familiarity with our student-athletes and institution to provide a quality experience."

After transferring from Catawba College (NC), West went on to help Messiah College (PA) win two MAC Commonwealth Tournament Championships which resulted in back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011-12.

Prior to pivoting to coaching, West worked as a certified athletic trainer following her graduation from Messiah in 2013.

She will make her head coaching debut when the Yeowomen open the 2019 season on August 30 at Ferrum College.
