The first event of the 2017 NCAC Golf Championship Series will be contested this weekend, April 22-23, at The Country Club of Meadville in Meadville, Pennsylvania, with Allegheny College serving as the host institution. The second event of the championship series will take place the following weekend, April 29-30, at Royal America Golf Links in Galena, Ohio, with Denison University serving as the host institution.

Wittenberg, winners of the last two NCAC women’s golf titles, was once again selected as the favorite this year in the pre-championship series poll after collecting five of the first-place votes and 35 total points in balloting from the league coaches. DePauw, which garnered the final first-place vote, finished second in the poll with 31 points, followed by Denison (24), Wooster (17), Ohio Wesleyan (12) and Allegheny (7).

The Wittenberg Tigers, who are under the direction of 10th-year head coach Jeff Roope, enter the 2017 NCAC Golf Championship series ranked sixth in the nation in the most recent Golfstat national rankings. The Tigers won three team titles this year, which included back-to-back championships in early October at the Washington & Lee Generals Invitational and the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational. Leading the charge for the Tigers this season has been junior Jane Hopkinson-Wood (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School) with eight total top-10 finishes and a pair of individual titles at the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic and the Golfweek Div. III Fall Invitational. Hopkinson-Wood is not only the top player in the NCAC, but also enters play in the championship series with the second-best 18-hole scoring average in the nation at 74.18. Senior Macy Hubbard (Mason, OH/Mason) has also been a mainstay in the Tigers’ lineup this season, posting six top-10 finishes with a scoring average of 76.18. Junior Brianna Yee (Las Vegas, NV/Faith Lutheran) and freshman Madi Wolters (Centerville, OH/Centerville) are the only other two players to post top-10 finishes this year, while the sophomore duo of Devon Atchison (Pataskala, OH/Watkins Memorial) and Chloe Bradburn (Gahanna, OH/Columbus Acad.) will also be vying for a spot in the scoring lineup in the NCAC Championship Series.
