Ohio Wesleyan senior Nate Newman (Chillicothe, OH/Zane Trace) was named the 2017-18 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Div. III Great Lakes Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year, it was announced by the association on March 7th.

Newman, who recently won the NCAC heptathlon for the third time in his career, is ranked 11th nationally in the heptathlon with a score of 4917 points. He is also 37th nationally in the high jump with a mark of 2.01m (6-7). Newman scored 35 points in field events at the NCAC Championships when he won both the heptathlon and high jump, placed second in the long jump, fourth in the pole vault and seventh in the triple jump.

He will now be competing this weekend in the heptathlon at the NCAA Div. III Indoor Track & Field Championships for the fourth consecutive season.
