Ohio Wesleyan University senior Nate Axelrod (Dublin, OH/Coffman) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® VII men's basketball teams, it was announced on February 22nd.
Axelrod was a first-team Academic All-District® selection and will now advance to the Academic All-America® ballot.
Axelrod, the Battling Bishops' point guard, leads the North Coast Athletic Conference in scoring (19.2 points/game) and assists (6.9/game) and ranks second in free throw percentage (.864), is tied for seventh in steals (1.3/game) and is 14th in three-point field goals (1.8/game).
This season, he has broken Ohio Wesleyan career records for assists and consecutive games started, and currently ranks third on the Battling Bishops' career scoring list. He has been named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 50 Watch List, and was named NCAC Player of the Week after averaging 19.0 points & 8.5 assists in Ohio Wesleyan wins over Wabash and Oberlin.
Axelrod is a two-time All-America selection and a two-time NCAC Player of the Year pick. He was a second-team Academic All-America® choice last year. He is a finance economics major.
The Academic All-District® teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, with District VII consisting of schools in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. To be considered for the teams, one must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better and be a starter or important reserve.
