Denison Bows Out Of NCAA Tournament

Denison's record-setting season came to a close on Wednesday night in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament as the Big Red dropped a 15-5 decision against Salisbury in Maryland.

DU got on the board first just 1:05 into the contest on a goal from sophomore midfielder Blair Farinholt (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's School), but the Seagulls responded in a big way by scoring the next seven goals of the first half to take a 7-1 lead into halftime.

The Big Red chipped away at the Salisbury lead by scoring two early goals in the third quarter to draw within five, 8-3, but the Seagulls again answered with three-straight goals to end the quarter to stretch the lead back out to eight at 11-3. Salisbury outscored the Big Red, 4-2, in the final stanza to secure the 10-goal victory.

Senior midfielder Chapin Speidel (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) {pictured} led the Big Red with two goals in his final collegiate game, while sophomore midfielder Eric Baumgardner (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga College) added 12 groundballs and sophomore goalie Clark Bullington (Houston, TX/Strake Jesuit College Prep) led the squad with six saves between the pipes.

Denison concludes the 2014 season with the most wins in program history with an overall record of 19-1.
