The 2014 North Coast men’s lacrosse season opened last week with Denison topping Mt. St. Joseph, 29-1, and Kenyon edging Albion by a 7-6 margin. Four more league teams will kick off their spring campaigns this week, led by Wooster hosting Mount Union on Wednesday and Ohio Wesleyan taking on Otterbein on Saturday in New Albany, Ohio. The preseason coaches poll for the 2014 season, the season guide and NCAC 30th Anniversary All-Decade team will be released by the NCAC Office on Tuesday, Feb. 25th.
DENISON, ranked 15th in the USILA Preseason Top 20 poll, opened the 2014 season at home on Saturday with a 29-1 victory over Mt. St. Joseph. Seventeen different Big Red players accounted for the team’s 29 goals, led by hat tricks from freshman Luke Walsh (Buffalo, NY/Nichols School/Deerfield Acad.), freshman Liam Rooney (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) and sophomore Blair Farinholt (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher’s School). Walsh also added two assists to lead the team with five points. In addition, sophomore Eric Baumgardner (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga College) was 14-of-16 in face-offs and paced the squad with nine groundballs.
KENYON junior Fritz Waine (Riverside, CT/Greenwich) posted a hat trick in the Lords’ season-opening 7-6 win over Albion on Saturday in Gambier. Waine scored three of KC’s first four goals and also added five groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers in the one-point victory.
