Ohio Wesleyan Bows Out Of NCAA Tournament

Ohio Wesleyan’s season came to a close on Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament as the Battling Bishops dropped a 9-5 decision against Gettysburg in Pennsylvania.

OWU tied the game, 1-1, at the 10:53 mark of the first quarter on a goal from junior midfielder Marcus Dietz (Westerville, OH/St. Francis DeSales) after Gettysburg scored just 45 seconds into the game, but the Bullets responded in a big way by scoring the next five goals of the first half to take a 6-1 lead into halftime.

The Battling Bishops registered the first goal of the second half and two of the three scores in the third quarter, but were unable to string together consecutive goals, despite outscoring Gettysburg, 4-3, in the second half that led to the four-goal victory.

Dietz led the Bishops with two goals and an assist for three total points, while senior attack John Umbach (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) added two goals on eight shots in his final collegiate game.  Freshman Trent Schulte (Coronado, CA/Coronado) collected a game-high six groundballs and senior goalie Ryan McMahon (Springfield, VA/The Bullis School) led the squad with 14 saves between the pipes.

The Battling Bishops finished the year with a record of 18-1, including the program's 19th North Coast championship and its first since 2011 after posting a conference record of 8-0.
