Although mother nature has continued to play havoc on the early
portion of the 2015 NCAC men’s lacrosse season, three games
were contested last week, highlighted by 17th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan
(0-0, 1-0) opening the season with a 17-4 victory over Augustana
last Saturday. There are now 15 games on the schedule this week,
highlighted by the league-opener as DePauw is set to host Denison
on Sunday in Greencastle at 3:00 p.m.
DENISON, ranked ninth in the USILA preseason poll, suffered a season-opening loss against No. 15 Washington & Lee by an 11-5 margin. Due to the inclement weather in the region, the game was played inside the Rissell-Schreyer Dome on the campus of Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania. The loss marked the first regular season defeat for Denison since April 6, 2013, a span of 687 days. Junior midfielder Blair Farinholt (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher’s) led the DU offense with two goals and one assist, while junior goalie Clark Bullington (Houston, TX/Strake Jesuit College Prep) paced the Big Red defense with 13 saves and five groundballs.
DEPAUW opened its third season of intercollegiate competition with a 13-8 win at Rhodes on Saturday. Freshman midfielder Kyle Roberts (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) led the Tigers with four goals in the win, while sophomore defender Eric Speer (Carmel, IN/Carmel) provided strong leadership for the Tigers in the season-opener with one goal and one groundball. In addition, freshman goalie Zach Taylor (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman) hauled in 10 saves en route to collecting his first collegiate win in goal for the Tigers.
HIRAM will open its 2015 season this Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Thiel.
KENYON had its scheduled season-opener at Mount St. Joseph on Saturday postponed due to inclement weather. The Lords are now scheduled to open the 2015 season this Wednesday at home against Capital at 3:00 p.m.
OBERLIN is scheduled to host Olivet in its season-opener on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
OHIO WESLEYAN, ranked 17th in the USILA preseason poll, cruised to a 17-4 victory over Augustana in its lid-lifter last Saturday. The game was also moved indoors to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Senior midfielder Brendan Bouchard (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor), who scored three goals during a game-opening 6-0 run, led the Bishops to the victory with four total points (3g, 1a). In goal, senior Ryan McMahon (Springfield, VA/The Bullis School) made five saves in the first three quarters, while freshman Xander Pacilio (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill) stopped three shots during the fourth quarter.
WABASH has had its first two official intercollegiate games postponed due to weather, but the Little Giants are now scheduled to take the field this Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. neutral site game against Elmhurst at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
WITTENBERG had its scheduled season-opener at Hampden-Sydney cancelled on Saturday due to inclement weather in Virginia. The Tigers are now scheduled to travel to Westerville, Ohio, on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. contest against Otterbein.
WOOSTER is scheduled to open its 2015 campaign this Tuesday at Washington & Lee.
