Wooster (3-0) and Kenyon (2-0) remain the lone unbeaten North Coast men’s lacrosse teams after another week of non-conference play. Going into the final week of non-conference action before league play begins on March 19th, eight of the nine league teams will be in action with a number teams on spring break trips. 

DENISON, ranked 17th in the most recent USILA poll, improved to 3-1 following a 9-4 win over Sewanee on Saturday. Denison got three goals from James Meager (Columbus, OH/Worthington-Kilbourne) and Owen Armstrong (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Latin). Will Donahue (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Latin) added four assists. Sewanee has been an NCAA Tournament qualifier in each of the last three seasons.

DEPAUW moved to 2-1 on the season with a 12-9 win at Cornell College on Saturday. Matthew Dauw (Canoga Park, CA/Chaminade Prep) paced DePauw with three goals and two assists, while Buck Dorger (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) also posted a hat trick with three goals.

HIRAM dropped its season opener to Thiel on Wednesday 14-5. Senior Chris Lekan (North Olmsted, OH/Holy Name) scored with one second left in the first half to bring the Terriers to within 6-3 at the break, but Thiel was able to pull away in the fourth quarter for the win. Senior Greg Summers (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary’s) and sophomore Nick Rollason (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington North) each tallied two goals to lead Hiram.

KENYON was off last week with midterms but the Lords will put their 2-0 record to test with road games at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Franklin and Marshall on March 9th and 12th this week.

OBERLIN and Capital were tied at eight early in the fourth quarter, but the visiting Crusaders went on to score three more goals to defeat the Yeomen 11-8 on Saturday. Senior Nick Lobley (Port Washington, NY/Portledge School) scored three goals in the game, surpassing 100 for his career as he now has 102 goals to his credit.

OHIO WESLEYANranked 9th in the most recent USILA poll, split a pair of non-conference contests last week, defeating Centre, 15-6, on Wednesday before dropping a tough 13-12 overtime decision against second-ranked Salisbury on Sunday. Sophomore Luke Leyden (Northfield, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) led the Bishops on the week with six goals, six ground balls and two caused turnovers.

WABASH split its two contest last week, falling 9-8 in the home opener against Wilmington, before traveling to Texas for spring break to claim a 16-6 victory at the University of Dallas. The 16 goals set a new team single-game record. Steven Stark (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) scored six goals in the win at Dallas to set a new single-game record, as well.

WITTENBERG defeated Albion, 14-10, in the Tigers lone contest last week to even their record to 1-1 on the season. Senior attacker Andrew Fuss (New Albany, OH/Gahanna Lincoln) led the Tigers to their first win of the 2016 season with four goals and one assist.

In its lone action, WOOSTER'S defense shutout W&J for 38-plus minutes while the offense built a sizable 9-2 lead by the end of the third quarter, and the Fighting Scots went on to a 14-4 road victory. Junior attacker Josh Herold (Massillon, OH/Jackson) led all scorers on the day, as he netted a pair of goals and assisted on four others.
