Ohio Wesleyan senior goalie Ryan McMahon (Springfield, VA/The Bullis School) and junior attack Marcus Dietz (Westerville, OH/St. Francis DeSales) have been named the Defensive and Offensive Players of the Year, respectively, to highlight the 2015 All-North Coast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse selections after balloting by league coaches.
McMahon, who makes his second-straight appearance on the top team and earns his fourth All-NCAC selection overall after collecting second-team laurels in both 2012 and '13, was the anchor for the Battling Bishops' defensive unit that has allowed just 84 goals through 16 games this season. In 763.23 minutes of action between the pipes this season, McMahon has made 119 saves and allowed just 68 goals for a league-leading 5.34 goals-against-average.
Dietz, who was also named the 2015 NCAC Newcomer of the Year by vote of the league coaches, burst onto the scene this spring after transferring to OWU from the Community College of Baltimore County, where he was a junior college All-America selection in 2014. Through the first 16 games of the season, Dietz leads OWU with 59 points (30g, 29a) and 110 shots, which includes 57 shots-on-goal for a .518 SOG percentage. He has also contributed on the defensive side of the ball for the Bishops this season with 36 groundballs and five caused turnovers.
Ohio Wesleyan senior midfielder Kyle Foster (Medfield, MA/Avon Old Farms, CT) earned his second-straight appearance on the first team and third All-NCAC selection overall after also being named to the honorable mention squad in 2013, while Denison junior midfielder Eric Baumgardner (Washington, DC/Gonzaga College) and Ohio Wesleyan senior defender Steve Barnett (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) were both named to the top team for the second year in a row.
Denison junior midfielder Blair Farinholt (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's School) and Ohio Wesleyan junior defender John Griffin (Oceanside, NY/Northfield Mt. Hermon, MA) elevated to the top squad after earning second-team laurels in both 2014 and '13, while Kenyon midfielder Alex Lopez (Portola Valley, CA/Woodside) and Wittenberg junior attack Andrew Fuss (New Albany, OH/Gahanna Lincoln) also jumped to the top team this spring from the 2014 second team and honorable mention squad, respectively.
Four players make their All-NCAC debut on the first team this spring, including Ohio Wesleyan junior midfielder Ben Danieli (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville), Denison sophomore attack Liam Rooney (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow), Denison sophomore defender Teddy Sawyer (Lutherville, MD/McDonogh School) and Ohio Wesleyan senior midfielder Chris Schwanz (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South).
Ohio Wesleyan head coach Mike Plantholt earned the NCAC Coach of the Year award by vote of the league coaches for the second time in his career. He led the third-ranked Battling Bishops to a perfect 16-0 record in the regular season, which included an 8-0 mark against NCAC foes to secure the program's league-leading 19th conference title. Plantholt, who owns an overall record of 62-19 (.765) in five years at OWU, will now lead the Bishops into the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament for the 28th time in program history.
