NCAC Men's Tennis Coaches' Poll

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Men’s Tennis Preseason Coaches’ Poll was released on Tuesday (Feb. 5) and Kenyon was selected as the favorite after earning eight of the nine first-place votes and 80 points overall.

Denison was tabbed second, earning the remaining first-place vote and 73 points total. DePauw took third with 59 points, three points ahead of Oberlin (56) in fourth, while Ohio Wesleyan rounded out the top five with 40 points. Wabash (34), Wooster (28), Wittenberg (18) and Allegheny (17) completed the nine-team field.

Kenyon returns the NCAC Player of the Year in junior Jacob Zalenski (Canton, Ohio/Jackson). Zalenski recorded a 22-7 record last season and was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation (ITA) All-American. The Lords also return All-NCAC singles first-teamer, Austin Diehl (O’Fallen, Mo./Homeschool) who produced a 30-2 record in his sophomore season. Senior Nicholas Paolucci (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South) also returns after taking All-NCAC singles second-team honors in 2017-18.

Kenyon leads the NCAC with 21 championships in 34 years (1989, 1991-93, '95, 2002-05, 2007-18), including winning 16 of the last 17 conference titles. Denison is not far off in the all-time title count with 12 championships (1985-89, '94, 1997-01, '06); Wooster has captured two outright titles (1990, '96) and four all-time. Denison and Wooster shared the inaugural title in 1985, while Denison, Kenyon and Wooster were declared tri-champions in 1989.

Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is made up of ten academically selective colleges and universities - Allegheny College, DePauw University, Denison University, Hiram College, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wabash College, Wittenberg University and the College of Wooster, along with affiliate member, Earlham College (field hockey). The NCAC sponsors 23 championship sports, 11 for men and 12 for women.
