Kenyon junior Austin Diehl (O'Fallon, MO/Hone Schooled), who was listed as an alternate last week, learned that he has been added to the list of participants for the upcoming 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship.
The NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Committee announced the 32 individuals that were selected to compete in the national singles competition a week ago with Diehl being listed as a second alternate. Since then, two players have withdrawn from the tournament which opened up a spot for Diehl to compete.
Diehl will now join teammate Jacob Zalenski (Canton, OH/Jackson), Kenyon's No. 1 singles player, in Michigan for the singles championship. Diehl collected his second All-NCAC citation as members of the All-NCAC first team this spring after posting a 15-1 record in dual matches at the No. 1 and 2 flights, while Zalenski, who made his third-straight appearance on the All-NCAC first team in singles, claimed back-to-back NCAC Player of the Year honors. He tallied a 14-1 record in dual matches at the top two flights this season.
The singles championships will be held May 24-26 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The bracket draw for the championship will be done by the men's tennis committee and will be released on May 23.
