  • Denison's Rooney Named Academic All-America

    Denison senior third baseman Julie Rooney (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America VII squad as a second-team selection, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on May 27.

    DePauw's postseason run came to an end at the hands of Linfield College, but the Tigers finished the season tied for fifth in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

    After falling to Moravian in game of the best-of-three Super Regional series of the 2015 NCAA Division III Softball Championships, the DePauw Tigers picked up a pair of come-from-behind wins over the Greyhounds on Saturday afternoon by scores 9-6 and 10-7 of to advance to the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the first time since 2011.
  • Eight NCAC Players Named To NFCA All-Central Region

    Led by first-team selections Julie Rooney (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) and Lauren Secaras (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) of Denison, the NCAC had eight student-athletes selected to the 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region Softball Team.

    Second-seeded DePauw fell behind 3-0 in the second inning to top-seeded Trine but the Tigers broke through with four runs in the third and claimed a 7-5 win to capture the Greencastle Regional of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

    DePauw (14-2, 30-13) captured its second-straight North Coast Athletic Conference softball tournament championship after defeating Denison (10-6, 22-19), 6-0, in game 7 of the 2015 NCAC Softball Tournament on Saturday in Greencastle, Indiana. Game 7 was needed after Denison earned a 8-0 victory over DPU in the first championship game.

    The 2015 NCAC Softball Tournament is set for Friday and Saturday, May 1-2, at DePauw University. The Tigers earned the right to host the two-day event after winning the NCAC championship with a regular season mark of 14-2 in league play. 2014 marks the third-straight NCAC softball title for DePauw.

    Heading into the final week of the regular season, DePauw (10-2, 21-12) holds a one game lead over Wittenberg (9-3, 16-12) for the top spot in league standings. With all four tournament spots still up in the air, North Coast action continues this week with four doubleheaders on Wednesday, four on Saturday and the league schedule concluding on Sunday as Hiram (4-4, 8-16) hosts Denison (4-6, 12-16) in Granville.

    Weather slowed play early in the week, however six NCAC doubleheaders were played over the weekend, led by DePauw (7-1, 17-10) sweeping Oberlin (1-5, 2-17) and Wooster (3-1, 12-10) taking two from Hiram (2-4, 6-16) as the Tigers and Scots sit atop the standings with just a single league loss to this point. Conference play continues this week with three doubleheaders scheduled Tuesday, three Wednesday, one Thursday, four Saturday and one on Sunday.

    The North Coast softball schedule continued last week with DePauw (5-1, 14-9) sweeping Denison (2-2, 10-10) on Tuesday and splitting with Hiram (1-1, 4-12) on Sunday to remain atop the league standings. Conference play continues this week with one doubleheader scheduled Monday, four Wednesday, four Saturday and one on Sunday.

    Weather played havoc on what was supposed to be the first weekend of NCAC play. Only two league games were contested all weekend as DePauw (2-0, 11-8) swept Kenyon (0-2, 19-5) in Greencastle on Sunday afternoon. There are nine NCAC double-headers scheduled this week with four each on Tuesday and Saturday and one on Friday.     North Coast softball squads wrapped up spring break trips last week, as eight teams open up the conference portion of their schedules this Saturday. Highlights include, DePauw (6-4) traveling to Kenyon (19-3) and Hiram (2-10) hosting Denison (6-4). Additionally, Wooster (9-7) and Allegheny (4-6) will hit the road to square off against Oberlin (1-5) and Ohio Wesleyan (8-5), respectively.

    North Coast softball squads continued spring break trips last week, highlighted by Ohio Wesleyan getting off to its best start in program history with a five-game winning streak and finishing its trip with a 7-3 mark. Non-conference action continues this week with all nine teams taking to the diamond.
