May 1, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg junior Stephanie Zorn (Grapevine, TX/Colleyville) went 10-16 (.625) last week with 11 RBI and four doubles. She is hitting .383 this season with seven doubles, a triple, a homer and 25 RBI. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Allegheny senior Giannina Coccaro (Miami, FL/Palmetto) went 3-0 last week, giving up one earned run in 24 innings of work. She struck out 24 and scattered seven hits. She hurled an eight-inning complete-game shutout against Bethany, striking out eight, allowing five hits and walking one. She pitched her first collegiate no-hitter in the opener against Denison, fanning seven and walking just one, facing just two batters above the minimum for a seven-inning game. A day later against Washington & Jefferson, she had a second no-hitter going with two outs in the seventh, before allowing her first run of the week, a solo home run. __________________________________________________________________________ April 24, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison sophomore catcher Erin Porter (Middlefield, OH/Middlefield) led the Big Red to a 3-1 week and at least a share of the NCAC title. In the four games last week, she was 6-for-14 (.429) with three doubles, two triples, five runs scored and four RBI. She is slugging a team-high .775 this season. Twenty-five of her 45 hits have gone for extra bases. She has established single-season records for triples with eight and for homers with four. She is second on the team with a .405 batting average. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Kenyon sophomore pitcher Stephanie Hemmingson (Beaverton, OR/Woodrow Wilson) went 2-1 this week, including throwing a no-hitter in the Ladies' 8-0 win over Oberlin. Overall, she made four appearances this week, threw 22 innings, allowed just two earned runs and struck out 14. Her ERA for the week was 0.64. __________________________________________________________________________ April 17, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Allegheny sophomore Crystal Ptacek (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny) batted .500 on the week, with seven hits in 14 at-bats. She drove in four runs and totalled seven bases, scored four runs and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate as catcher. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Allegheny senior Giannina Coccaro (Miami, FL/Palmetto) tossed 11 innings of shutout ball, striking out 13 during that span and giving up just five hits. She was 2-0 with wins over Oberlin and Kenyon. In four innings against the Yeowomen, she allowed one hit and in seven against the Ladies, she allowed four. She had an opponent batting average of .143 during the week and walked just one batter. Coccaro leads the pitching staff with a 1.86 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 71.1 innings of work. __________________________________________________________________________ April 10, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster junior center fielder Maria Gonzalez (Millersburg, Ohio / West Holmes) went on a 10-of-14 tear (.714) at the plate last week while leading the Scots to a 3-1 start in NCAC games. Her slugging percentage was 1.429, doubling three times, tripling twice, and homering once, and she scored seven runs while driving in nine. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison junior Jen Anthony (Hebron, OH/Lakewood) was 2-0 this week with a pair of complete-game shutouts versus Bluffton (1-0) and Oberlin (9-0). She pitched 13.0 innings, allowing seven hits, no runs, no walks and striking out 11. __________________________________________________________________________ April 3, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan senior shortstop Linsey Longstreth (Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) went 9-for-15 (.600) on the week with a double, a triple and a homer. She drove in six runs from her leadoff position and scored nine of her own. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg freshman Rachael Hatcher (West Carrollton, OH/West Carrollton) picked up her fifth and sixth wins of the season in 2-0 shutout against Mt. Saint Joseph and a 4-3 win over Albion. She went the distance in both contests. In the shutout over Mt. Saint Joseph, she allowed four hits and struck out three. Against Albion, she also allowed four hits and three runs, but just one hit and two baserunners after the second inning. __________________________________________________________________________ March 27, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison sophopmore Erin Porter (Middlefield, OH/Middlefield) went 9-for-21 with three doubles, three triples and one home run to lead the Big Red to a 5-1 week. She drove in nine runs, scored seven and posted a slugging percentage of 1.000. She is hitting .442 this season in 16 games and leads the team with 20 RBI and 14 extra base hits. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Allegheny freshman right-hander Becca Rich (Gibsonia, PA/North Allegheny) led the Gator pitching staff with a 3-2 record and a 1.89 ERA over its 10-game spring break trip. She struck out 27 batters and walked just five in 33.1 innings of work. She also earned a shutout as Allegheny went 4-6 overall. __________________________________________________________________________ March 20, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK ooster junior first baseman Maria Gonzalez (Millersburg, OH/West Holmes) hit .465 (20-for-43) with 11 runs scored, two doubles, three triples, two home runs and 17 RBI in her team's opening week. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan junior Claire Martin (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson Area) won six of seven decisions with an earned-run average of 1.82. She pitched her second career no-hitter against Hamilton, allowed just one baserunner (on a fourth-inning walk) and struck out eight in the game. Martin earned a save against St. Norbert, coming on in relief with the bases load in the sixth inning and emerged unscathed. Against Western Connecticut State, she came on in relief in the bottom of the seventh and got out of a bases- loaded one-out jam and eventually earned the win in nine innings. __________________________________________________________________________
