Just one day after being named the NCAC Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week, Denison junior Matt Hedman (Anoka, MN/Anoka) and sophomore KT Kustritz (St. Paul, MN/Insight School) were honored as the collegeswimming.com Division III National Swimmers of the Week for their performances last Saturday against Eastern Michigan University.
On the men's side, Hedman enjoyed multiple victories against the Eagles as he won the 1,000 freestyle event in a career-best time of 9:34.45. He also finished the 500 freestyle in first place with a time of 4:37.18.
For the women's team, Kustritz helped capture three victories for the Big Red, two individually and one as part of a relay. In the 200 medley relay, Kustritz contributed in the team victory with Casey Kirby (Long Grove, IL/Stevenson), Maddie Hopkins (Chico, CA/Chico) and Gabriella Nutter (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Mary's) as they posted an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:44.76. Kustritz followed that victory up with a pair of wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, posting 'B' cut times of 1:02.17 and 2:18.17, respectively.
Denison's men's swimming & diving team opened the preseason ranked No. 3 by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America and the women's team was ranked No. 4. The Denison men's and women's teams return to action on Friday, Nov. 3, when they travel to Columbus for a dual meet with Ohio State University, set to start at 6 p.m.
