The NCAA Division III Diving Regionals concluded on Saturday, Mar. 2, as 11 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) divers competed for a chance to move on to Greensboro, N.C., for the swimming & diving national championships.
In day-2 of region-1 competition at Wabash, Denison went 7-8-9-13 in the final standings of 3-meter diving, led by junior Naomi Clayton (Lexington, Ky./Sayre) who placed seventh out of 27 divers with an 11-dive score of 416.80. Junior Allison Fitzgerald (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) followed in eighth place with 412.70 points while senior Emma Weber (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) placed ninth at 398.50. In 13th place, first-year Mattie Stauss (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) posted a score of 388.80 after an eighth-place finish in Friday's 1-meter competition. Kenyon’s Madeline Carlson (Wayzata, Minn./Blake School) finished 10th on the higher plank with a final count of 396.25.
In men's 1-meter diving, Kenyon College senior Ryder Sammons (Kent, Conn./Kent School) rang up a score of 412.75 and claimed eighth place among 21 divers competing in the one-meter event. Denison freshman Liam Simmons (Weston, Conn./Weston) placed 10th with a score of 407.10 while Wabash senior Aaron Embree (Springville, Ind./Bedford North Lawrence) finished in 20th with a score of 350.55.
Allegheny competed at region four of the diving championships, hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. Junior Brionna Litwin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished 12th in 1-meter diving on Saturday, compiling a score of 376.65. Sophomore Chelsea Pietrzycki (Parma, Ohio/Parma) also competed, finishing in 16th place with a score of 359.85 points.
Qualifiers for the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships will be announced on Monday, March 4.
