SALEM, Va. -- DePauw Women’s Basketball senior Maya Howard (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) has been selected to play in the 2019 Beyond Sports Women’s Collegiate All-Star Game presented by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Saturday, March 16, in Salem, Virginia.
The inaugural Beyond Sports Women’s Collegiate All-Star Game will be played at the Cregger Center on the campus of Roanoke College immediately preceding the NCAA Division III women’s basketball national championship game. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. ET.
A total of 18 All-Stars were selected by a committee of head coaches in the WBCA from Division III programs while the remaining two All-Stars were chosen by fans out of eight nominees. Howard advanced to the game through the fan vote which took place on the Beyond Sports website.
Howard, who is only the fourth player in NCAC women's basketball history to claim back-to-back honors as the conference Player of the Year, was one of the key factors in leading the Tigers to their sixth conference crown in the last eight years. In addition to being named Player of the Year, Howard claimed her third-consecutive selection to the All-NCAC first team, while also earning a second team selection during her rookie campaign along with being named the 2016 Newcomer of the Year.
Howard tallied the second-most points (453, 15.1 ppg) among NCAC players this season, highlighted by a career-high mark of 29 points in the Tigers' 86-68 home win over Ohio Wesleyan on Jan. 12. She ranked second among league players in assists with 116 helpers (3.9 apg) and was the top free throw shooter at 88.2 percent (105-of-119) while also recording the third-most steals (47).
