2018-19 NCAC Women's Basketball Players of the Week

February 18th

Kenyon junior Paige Matijasich helped propel the Ladies to a pair of conference victories last week, securing the No. 3-seed in the conference tournament. Matijasich posted 21 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals in an 80-58 victory against Ohio Wesleyan before adding 16 points, nine rebounds and two assists in a 72-50 win at Allegheny.
February 11th
Olivia Canning, Oberlin
(Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury)

Olivia Canning became the ninth player in program history to score 1,000 points, doing so in historic fashion in a 52-22 win over Allegheny. Canning posted her first-career triple-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 blocks in 31 minutes of work. The center followed with her sixth double-double of the year collecting 12 points and 12 rebounds, while adding five blocks along the way to celebrating her senior day with a 78-60 win over Hiram. For the week, she averaged 12 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 7.5 blocks per game. 
February 4th  
  Maya Howard, DePauw
(St. Louis, Mo./MICDS)

DePauw senior Maya Howard tallied double-digit scoring in back-to-back conference victories last week. Howard recorded a 19-point, seven-assist effort in a 93-56 victory over Allegheny, before adding 17 points and seven rebounds in a 69-52 win against Hiram on Saturday. DePauw improved to 18-4 overall and 12-1 in the conference.
January 28th  
  Claire Sterling, Ohio Wesleyan
(West Jefferson, Ohio/West Jefferson)

Claire Sterling led the Bishops with 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds against Hiram. She was 9-for-12 from the field, also hitting a pair of free throws during the final minute to help Ohio Wesleyan close out a 68-59 victory. It was Sterling’s second consecutive double-double and third of the season.
January 21st
  Lauren Longbrake, Denison
(Groveport, Ohio/Hamilton Twp)

Lauren Longbrake helped Denison to a perfect week by scoring 14 points in a 66-53 victory at Wooster and adding 13 points against Wittenberg in a 78-76 win on Saturday. Longbrake capped off the game against the Tigers with a game-winning put-back with 0.9 seconds in the second overtime.

January 14th
Kristie Kalis, Wittenberg
(Winnetka, Ill./New Trier)

Wittenberg’s Kristie Kalis continued her hot streak in a matchup against NCAC foe Wooster. The sophomore led the Red and White in scoring (14 pts) and rebounding (9 reb.) as the Tigers went on to take the game, 82-58 from the Fighting Scots. Kalis has scored in double-digits three-of-four games so far this January.
January 7th

Maya Howard, DePauw
(St. Louis, Mo./MICDS)

DePauw senior Maya Howard helped the Tigers post a 6-1 record since Dec. 20, including a 3-0 record in NCAC play. Howard posted three 20+ point efforts, including 26 points, four rebounds and three assists against Hiram and 21 points and four assists against Wooster. Howard averaged 16.6 points, 3.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds across the seven games and was named to the Amy Hasbrook Memorial All-Tournament team on Dec. 29.

December 17th

Paige Matijasich, Kenyon

Kenyon junior Paige Matijasich scored a season-high 24 points against Case Western Reserve before following that up with a 19-point performance against Mount Vernon Nazarene University as the Ladies went 2-0 and improved to 8-3. Matijasich shot a combined 51.6 percent in those games including a 60-percent clip from three-point range. She currently ranks second in the NCAC in scoring (16.2) and third in rebounding (9.6). No other NCAC player ranks in the top-five in both of those categories.

December 10th

Sydney Kopp, DePauw
(Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale South)

DePauw’s Sydney Kopp unloaded for 24 points in a 61-52 win over Wittenberg last week. The junior also recorded four rebounds, three assists and two steals. She followed that up with a 14-point, five-rebound performance against Oberlin in a 66-37 victory on Saturday. DePauw went 2-0 on the week and improved to 6-2 overall, 3-0 in NCAC play.

December 3rd

Tia Karras, Ohio Wesleyan
(Bellbrook, Ohio/Miami Valley)

Tia Karras tallied 20 points for Ohio Wesleyan at Defiance as the Bishops went on to win 82-62. Against Allegheny, she connected on a pair of 3-pointers during an 11-2 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay in the NCAC season opener. The trifectas came on back-to-back possessions and gave Bishops a 24-19 lead. The sophomore finished with a team-high 20 points and shared the team lead with seven rebounds in a 69-63 victory.

November 26th

Kylie Orr, Wooster
(Newport, Ky./Newport)

Wooster junior Kylie Orr posted a career-high 28 points to lead the Fighting Scots to a 68-62 win over Penn State Behrend last week. The gaurd hit four free throws down the stretch to secure the win and finished the game 10-for-16 from the floor and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. Orr also added five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Through four games, Orr leads the 3-1 Scots at 18.3 points per game. 

November 19th

Kenyon junior Paige Matijasich averaged a double-double in three victories for the Ladies last week. Matijasich began the week with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance in an 87-66 victory over Wooster. She then followed that up with a 20-point, 12-rebound effort against Grove City. She finished the week with 12 points and nine rebounds in a 65-57 victory over Wilmington. 

November 12th

Olivia Canning, Oberlin
(Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury)

Senior center Olivia Canning notched her 16th career double-double in Oberlin’s 59-45 win over Alma on Saturday. In just 28 minutes of work, Canning went 7-of-9 from the floor and was a perfect 3-of-3 at the free throw line to post 17 points to accompany her 10 rebounds. The school’s all-time leading shot blocker also added three rejections to bring her career count to 272.
