CLEVELAND, Ohio – Denison emerged as the favorite in the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Women’s Lacrosse poll, based on balloting of the conference coaches.

The Big Red, who captured the program’s fifth-straight NCAC Tournament title and 13th overall last year earned eight of the nine first-place votes for 79 points. Wooster, which advanced to the conference tournament title game for the first time since 2013, was selected to finish second after totaling 65 points. Oberlin was predicted third, picking up the remaining first-place vote and totaling 56 points. Kenyon was tabbed fourth with 55 points while Allegheny was fifth, just one point behind the Ladies (54). Wittenberg (40), Ohio Wesleyan (24), DePauw (23) and Hiram (9) rounded out the nine-team field.

The Denison offense returns junior attacker Kiely Noonan (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) who was selected to the All-NCAC First Team in 2018. The Big Red also return the 2018 NCAC Defensive Player of the Year, senior Jane Goodspeed (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids), who is a three-time All-NCAC First-Team honoree. Head coach Amanda Daniels returns for her sixth season at Denison after guiding the Big Red to five-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, three North Coast Athletic Conference Championships and five NCAC Tournament titles. Denison enters the 2019 season ranked No. 25 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) preseason coaches’ poll.

Denison leads all NCAC squads with 20 conference championships in 34 seasons (1985-94, ‘96 ,1999-01, ’06, 2011-12 and 2016-18). Wooster has collected six conference titles (2002-04, ‘07, 2009-10), while Oberlin has earned three (1995, 1997-98), Ohio Wesleyan (2005 and ‘08) and Wittenberg (2014-15) each have garnered two and Kenyon (2013) owns one league crown.  

Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is made up of ten academically selective colleges and universities - Allegheny College, Denison University, DePauw University, Hiram College, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wabash College, Wittenberg University and the College of Wooster, along with affiliate member, Earlham College (field hockey). The NCAC sponsors 23 championship sports, 11 for men and 12 for women.
