Denison Tops NCAC Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches' Poll

CLEVELAND, OH – Four-time defending NCAC Champion, Denison emerged as the unanimous favorite in the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Women’s Lacrosse preseason poll, based on balloting of the conference coaches. 

The Big Red, who captured the program’s sixth-straight NCAC Tournament title and 14th overall last year, earned all nine first-place votes for 81 points. Kenyon was selected to finish second after totaling 65 points. Wooster was predicted third, totaling 63 points, while Oberlin was tabbed fourth (56) and Wittenberg fifth (42). Allegheny (35), DePauw (28), Ohio Wesleyan (26) and Hiram (9) rounded out the nine-team field.

The Denison offense returns senior attacker Kiely Noonan (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) who is a three-time All-NCAC first-team selection. The Big Red also return the 2019 NCAC Newcomer of the Year, sophomore Casey McTague (Arlington, VA/Stone Ridge), who was also an All-NCAC first-team honoree. Head coach Amanda Daniels returns for her seventh season at Denison after guiding the Big Red to six-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, four NCAC Championships and six conference tournament titles. Denison enters the 2020 season tied at No. 22 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) preseason coaches’ poll.

Denison leads all NCAC squads with 21 conference championships in 35 seasons (1985-94, ‘96 ,1999-01, ’06, 2011-12 and 2016-19). Wooster has collected six conference titles (2002-04, ‘07, 2009-10), while Oberlin has earned three (1995, 1997-98), Ohio Wesleyan (2005 and ‘08) and Wittenberg (2014-15) each have garnered two and Kenyon (2013) owns one league crown.  

Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is made up of ten academically selective colleges and universities - Allegheny College, Denison University, DePauw University, Hiram College, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wabash College, Wittenberg University and the College of Wooster, along with affiliate member, Earlham College (field hockey). The NCAC sponsors 23 championship sports, 11 for men and 12 for women.
