ALLEGHENY posted a 1-1 record in league play last week after topping Oberlin, 3-1, on Tuesday and falling to Denison, 3-1, on Saturday. Senior libero Catherine Kasianowicz (Buffalo, NY/Mt. Mercy Acad.) racked up 46 digs on the week after accumulating 20 in the win over Oberlin and 26 in the loss against DU
DENISON suffered a narrow 3-2 loss against No. 6 Wittenberg on Thursday before rebounding with a 3-1 win over Allegheny on Saturday. The Big Red’s performance against Wittenberg marked their first five-set match with the Tigers since the 2001 season. Freshman Leah Reinfranck (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) posted a .415 hitting percentage on the week with 23 kills, while sophomore Rachele Lock (Chicago, IL/St. Ignatius) totaled 26 kills in nine sets
DEPAUW, which appears in the “Others Receiving Votes” portion of the AVCA national poll, ran off three straight-set wins last week against Ohio Wesleyan, Kenyon and Marian (IN). Junior outside hitter Sarah Burtenshaw (Centerville, OH/Centerville) led DPU on the week with 32 kills, which included a 13-kill effort against OWU and a 10-kill performance against Kenyon
HIRAM dropped a tight non-conference match against No. 7 Mount Union on Wednesday before defeating Wooster in straight-sets on Friday. Sophomore Marissa Jay (Parma, OH/Padua Franciscan) collected 10 kills without an error in the loss against UMU, while junior Lindsay Brewer (Barberton, OH/Manchester) had 16 kills to lead the Terriers against Wooster
KENYON lost a pair of league matches against nationally-ranked opponents last week, falling to No. 6 Wittenberg, 3-0, on Tuesday, and previous No. 20 DePauw, 3-0, on Saturday
OBERLIN opened play last week with a 3-1 league loss against Allegheny, but the Yeowomen bounced back with back-to-back non-conference wins on Saturday against PSU-Behrend, 3-1, and La Roche, 3-0. OHIO WESLEYAN went 1-1 last week, dropping a 3-0 decision against DePauw on Tuesday and earning a straight-set win over Mount Vernon Nazarene on Thursday. WITTENBERG, ranked sixth in the most recent AVCA national poll, improved to 4-0 in league play following a 3-0 win over Kenyon on Tuesday and a 3-2 triumph over Denison on Thursday. The win over DU marked the first time since the 2010 season that a team pushed the Tigers to five sets in a regular season NCAC match. Sophomore middle hitter Emily Kahlig (Coldwater, OH/Coldwater) finished the week with 14 blocks (1 solo, 13 asst.), which included 10 against the Big Red, while junior Kara Seidenstricker (London, OH/Jonathan Alder) and sophomore Courtney Huck (Decatur, IL/St. Teresa) finished the week with 26 kills and 37 set assists, respectively
WOOSTER dropped its lone match of the week on Friday against Hiram by a 3-0 margin. Sophomore outside hitter Savannah Moore (Burbank, OH/Northwestern) paced the Fighting Scots in the match with seven kills.
