Wittenberg Caps Season as DIII Runner-up

The Wittenberg Tigers (29-3) capped their 2015 campaign as national runners-up after dropping a 3-0 decision to Cal Luthern in the final match of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships on Saturday evening (11/21) at Van Noord Arena on the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The loss snapped the Tigers' 14-match winning streak, including five straight postseason wins that had the Tigers on the brink of their second national title in five seasons.

Seniors Melissa Emmig (West Chester, OH/Mount Notre Dame) and Kara Seidenstricker (London, OH/Jonathan Alder)once again led the Tigers. Emmig posted a team-high eight kills and tied with senior libero Kristina Fultz (Batavia, OH/Glen Este) with seven digs apiece. Seidenstricker, named to the all-tournament team, led the way with 11 digs and also chipped in five kills and a service ace. Junior Camila Quinones (Sunbury, OH/Worthington Christian) was also honored as a member of the all-tournament team; she contributed four kills in the championship match.

Semifinal Recap (11/20)

Wittenberg (29-2) moved into the championship match of the 2015 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships following a 3-1 victory over Hendrix (31-9) on Friday (11/20) evening at Van Noord Arena on the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Once again, the Tigers set the tone early with a 25-14 victory in set one. The Tigers dropped the second set, 25-16, to the Warriors before taking the final two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-13 to advance to the championship for the first time since they took home the walnut and bronze trophy in 2011.

Seniors Melissa Emmig (West Chester, OH/Mount Notre Dame) and Kara Seidenstricker (London, OH/Jonathan Alder) paced the offense with nine kills apiece while junior Camila Quinones (Sunbury, OH/Worthington Christian) chipped in eight. Senior libero Kristina Fultz (Batavia, OH/Glen Este) led the defensive unit with 26 digs, followed closely by Seidenstricker's 23.

Wittenberg will square off against the winner of the Carthage vs. Cal. Lutheran semifinal tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. for a chance at the Tigers' second national crown.

Quarterfinal Recap (11/19)

Wittenberg (28-2) cruised into the national semifinals of the 2015 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships following a 3-0 victory over Clarkson (30-9) on Thursday (11/19) afternoon at Van Noord Arena on the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Tigers set the tone early with a 25-11 victory in set one and edged out the Knights by set scores of 25-22 and 25-21 to advance to the national semifinals for the first time since 2011.

Junior middle hitter Emily Kahlig (Coldwater, OH/Coldwater) supplied the Tigers' offensive fire power in the match with 10 kills against just 16 attempts and one error for a .526 hitting percentage, while senior libero Kristina Fultz (Batavia, OH/Glen Este) bolstered the defensive unit with 16 digs. 

Wittenberg will now return to the court tomorrow evening in Michigan at 5:00 p.m. against Hendrix (31-8) with a spot in the national championship match on the line.
