2018 All-NCAC Volleyball Squad Announced

2018 All-NCAC Volleyball Team

DePauw senior outside hitter Suzanne Peters (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) has been named the Player of the Year and Wittenberg junior Taylor Yontz (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) was named the Libero of the Year to highlight the 2018 All-North Coast Athletic Conference volleyball selections.

Peters was a repeat selection on the first team this year after leading the Tigers to a 7-1 mark in conference play (17-9 overall). In 25 total regular-season matches, Peters led the NCAC in kills per set at 4.22 and total points with 421 (4.6/set). She finished the regular season with 13 double-double performances, which included a season-high 30-kill and 10-dig effort in a matchup against Coe on August 31, and a season-best 17 digs to go along with 16 kills in a win against Aurora on October 27. In 92 total regular-season sets, Peters claimed 388 kills and committed just 135 hitting errors in 1,033 attempts for a .245 hitting percentage.

After landing on the first team for the second season of her career, Kenyon senior outside hitter Delaney Swanson (Sonoma, CA/Sonoma Valley) is the only four-time All-NCAC performer on the 2018 All-NCAC team. She was named a second-team honoree in 2017 and 2015, while also being selected to the first team during her sophomore campaign. Wittenberg junior middle blocker Aubrey Cox (Tipp City, OH/Tippecanoe), the 2016 NCAC Newcomer of the Year, was named to the top team for the third-consecutive season, while senior teammate Karen Wildemann (Columbus, IN/North) and DePauw junior Morgan Stearley (Center Point, IN/Northview) also repeat as first-team selections from a season ago. Widemann also earned an honorable mention selection in 2016. Oberlin junior outside hitter Lexi Mitchell (Fort Mill, SC/Providence Day) elevated to the first team this season after being named to the second team in both 2017 and 2016, while Hiram senior setter/defensive specialist Holly Hoffman (Streetsboro, OH/Crestwood) made her debut on the All-NCAC first team this year.

Yontz was named the 2018 NCAC Libero of the Year after finishing the regular season with a league-leading 447 digs in 79 total sets for an average of 5.66 digs per set. She eclipsed the 20-dig mark in nine different matches, which included posting a career-high 41 digs in a 3-2 loss to Christopher Newport on September 8. Her top individual effort in league play was a 24-dig performance in a 3-1 win over Denison on October 10.

Denison freshman outside hitter Payton McElfresh (Bethel, OH/Miami Valley Christian Academy) was named the 2018 NCAC Newcomer of the Year as the league’s top player in her first year of collegiate competition. She finished in the top 20 in the conference in the regular season in kills, digs and points, earning 200 kills (2.50/set), 261 digs (3.26/set) and 231 points (2.9/set). McElfresh also finished the regular season with eight double-double performances, including a season-high 25-dig and 10-kill effort against DePauw on September 22 and a season-best 17-kill and 17-dig performance at Oberlin.

Wittenberg first-year head coach Evelyn Carus was named the 2018 NCAC Volleyball Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to a perfect 8-0 mark in league play. The Tigers finished the regular season slate win an overall record of 21-2 and held the third spot in the AVCA Top-25 Poll for six weeks.
