North Coast cross country squads got a preview of the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship course on Saturday by competing at the Pre-National Meet at The Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio. The seven Ohio-based institutions will compete in the annual All-Ohio Championships next Saturday in Cedarville, Ohio.

DENISON, DEPAUW, KENYON, OHIO WESLEYAN, WABASH, WITTENBERG and nearly 25 additional non-conference institutions traveled to The Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, on Saturday for the NCAA Division III Pre-National Meet. The NCAA Div. III National Championship race will be conducted on the same course on Saturday, November 22. SUNY-Geneseo earned the women’s team championship with 34 total points, while the NCAC finishers included Denison in fourth (206), Ohio Wesleyan in sixth (223), DePauw in eighth (260), Kenyon in 16th (433) and Wittenberg in 21st (592). On the men’s side, North Central cruised to the team title with just 16 points, while DePauw was eighth (335), Wabash 18th (462), Ohio Wesleyan 19th (507), Denison 20th (535), Wittenberg 21st (575) and Kenyon 25th (662). Indivudally on the women’s side, Cassie Goodman of SUNY-Geneseo broke the tape on the 6K course with a time of 20:54.55, while the Denison duo of freshman Emily Grabauskas (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) and senior Abbi Boss (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) both cracked the top-10 in ninth (21:29.74) and 10th (21:32.86), respectively. DPU got its top performance from junior Heather O’Brien (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), who finished 23rd with a time of 21:54.03, while three additional NCAC runners finished in the top-30, including Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Kaillie Winston (Millington, NJ/Watchung Hills) in 26th (21:59.41), OWU sophomore Sarah Fowler (Mount Vernon, OH/Fredericktown) in 27th (22:05.51) and DPU sophomore Emma MacAnally (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) in 29th (22:09.04). Wittenberg sophomore Erin Hord (Madison, OH/Madison) finished 74th overall with a time of 22:59.48, while Kenyon freshman Molly Hunt (San Anselmo, CA/Redwood) crossed the line in 76th (23:00.74). On the men’s side, North Central’s Troy Kelleher finished first out of 375 runners on the 8K championship course with a time of 23:36.28. Denison sophomore Jake Dennie (Indianapolis, IN/Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) led all league runners in the event by finishing 24th overall with a time of 24:41.61, while Wittenberg sophomore Jon Osman (Troy, OH/Troy) also finished inside the top-35 in 34th-place with a personal-best time of 24:50.08. DePauw senior Noah Gatwood (Birdseye, IN/Perry Central) checked in at 45th (25:02.38), followed by Ohio Wesleyan sophomore John Sotos (Dublin, OH/Coffman) in 55th (25:11.68), Kenyon junior Sam Lagasse (Woodbridge, CT/Westhill) in 84th (25:36.51) and Wabash senior Collin Ginebaugh (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) in 89th (25:39.48).

ALLEGHENY, HIRAM, OBERLIN and WOOSTER were all idle last weekend.
