November 10, 2008 Williams, a 6-1 outside hitter, led the conference during the regular season with a .379 hitting percentage (256 kills, 53 errors, 535 attempts), and was third in kills per game (3.01). She led the Tigers to their 14th North Coast championship, their 14th NCAC tournament title, and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 13th straight year, and 14th overall. Wittenberg is the fifth ranked team in NCAA Division III, and has compiled a 32-2 record through last week's conference tournament. Williams was named to the All-NCAC first team for the fourth straight year; she began her career as the Newcomer of the Year in 2005. Wooster senior Ali Drushal (Lakeville, OH/West Holmes) repeated as the NCAC's Libero of the Year. She is the only player in North Coast history to earn the honor three consecutive seasons and she is a repeat first-team selection after also earning second team honors in 2006. Drushal led the conference during the regular season with 6.55 digs per game and became only the 10th player in NCAA volleyball history (all divisions) to register 3,000 career digs. She finishes her four-year Wooster career with an NCAC-record 3,043 digs. Joining Williams and Drushal on the first team are senior middle hitter Jessica Kimble (Dennison, OH/Claymont) and junior setter Erin Slattery (Chagrin Falls, OH/Kenston) from Wittenberg, Wooster junior middle hitter/outside hitter KateLynn Riley (Westlake, OH/Westlake) and Hiram junior middle hitter Randa Jackson (South Euclid, OH/Brush). Kimble earns her second All-NCAC honor after receiving honorable mention status last fall, while Jackson, Riley and Slattery make their All-NCAC debut. Slattery was named 2006 Newcomer of the Year, but was not voted to one of the three teams. Wooster freshman setter Lizzi Beal (Bowling Green, KY/Greenwood) was voted the NCAC's Newcomer of the Year. She finished her first regular season with the Fighting Scots second in the conference and first on her own team with 9.12 assists per game and was also named to the honorable mention squad. Fighting Scots head coach Sarah Davis was named NCAC Coach of the Year for the first time after leading Wooster to a second-place finish and a 20-13 overall record this season, their first 20-win season since 2005. Davis is 35-27 in her two years at the helm. |
