GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Denison (8-5-6) fell 2-1 to Milwaukee School of Engineering (20-1-3) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday, November 10. MSOE will advance to the second round to take on No. 17-ranked Calvin (15-1-3) on Saturday, November 11, at 5:00 p.m.
In the first 45 minutes of scoreless action, the Raiders outshot the Big Red 10-2, while putting five shots on goal. Denison keeper Molly Noga (Springboro, OH/Archbishop Alter) kept MSOE at bay with five saves, while Eliza Roach (Buffalo, NY/Westminster School) would put one shot on goal for the Big Red.
Just three minutes into the second half, Leena Afifi set up Elizabeth Kuhn to score the Raiders first goal of the game at the 47:59 mark. Kuhn would net her second goal of the match just under five minutes later with Olivia Carroll collecting the assist. MSOE would hold a 2-0 lead through a majority of the second frame before Denison would net its only goal of the game at the 80:54 mark. Callie Davis (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) worked her way through the Raider defense to set up Roach, who sent a beautiful strike into the back of the net for the Big Red.
Noga made seven saves in net for Denison, while MSOE's Reagan Tompkins made one save in the first half and Megan Lacina made two saves and allowed the Denison lone goal in the final 45 minutes.
