MOUNT BERRY, GA – The Denison junior duo of
Ethan Green (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline) and
Kael Shah (Nairobi, Kenya/ES American School Barcelona (Spain)) made program history after picking up several wins at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Mount Berry, Georgia, which concluded on Sunday, October 13.
In singles play, Green recorded wins over
Warren Pham of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) (6-4, 3-6, 7-5),
John Lasanajak of Emory (7-5, 7-5) and
Alex Feies of Carnegie Mellon (6-4, 6-3, 6-1) to advance to the 2024 ITA Cup championship match. In the tournament final, the junior fell to top-seeded
Advik Mareedu of CMS, earning him runner-up status. Green finished the tournament with a 3-1 record. Shah went 1-1 in singles after defeating
Chakor Sakaran Rajendra of Johns Hopkins (6-1, 6-2) and then falling 6-0, 6-3 to the eventual ITA Cup Champion, Mareedu of CMS. Green and Shah earned All-American honors after recording at least one win at the championship.
In doubles action, Green and Shah, the 2024 NCAC Doubles Team of the Year, earned a runner-up finish after the tandem tallied three wins. The pair defeated
Aiden Drover-Mattinen and
Andy Zhu of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) (4-6, 6-4, 10-8),
Javier Gonzalez and
Stavros Mastogamvrakis of Tufts (6-1, 6-1), and
Josh Christenson and
Marco Siviero of Gustavus Adolphus (7-6, 8-6, 6-1) to advance to the finals. In the championship match, the pair fell 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 to
Alex Ganchev and
Sacha Maes of Tufts. The junior duo finished the cup with a 3-1 record and were named All-Americans for their efforts.
At the ITA Cup, Denison was the only school to have student-athletes earn spots in the semifinals or finals in both singles and doubles play. This also marks the first time in program history that Denison has had semifinalists or finalist in either singles or doubles at the ITA Cup.
