DePauw to Face WashU in NCAA Women's Soccer First Round

CLEVELAND, OH - DePauw (12-5-3) claimed its third North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament title with a 2-1 victory over Wittenberg (6-6-5) on Saturday, November 9, in Greencastle, Indiana. As NCAC tournament champions, the Indiana Tigers earned the NCAC's automatic bid into the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. DePauw will be making its first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2015, and ninth overall.
 
The DePauw Tigers will open play in St. Louis, Missouri with a first-round game against host Washington University in St. Louis (17-0-2) on Saturday, November 16, at 6:30 p.m. The Bears, making their 18th-straight and 23rd overall appearance in the national tournament, earned the University Athletic Association automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. This will be the fourth overall meeting on the pitch for DePauw and WashU, with the Bears earning a 4-0 victory over the Tigers in their last meeting on Sept. 13 of this year. The winner of the DePauw/WashU first-round contest will move on to face the winner of Wisconsin-La Crosse (16-3-2) and Simpson (14-2-3) on Sunday, November 17, at 8:00 p.m. in the second round.
 
Led by sixth-year head coach Cristin Allen, DePauw has gotten strong offensive performances this season from juniors Ellie Mahan (Dublin, OH/Dublin Jerome) and Macy Happe (Evansville, IN/Evansville North), sophomore Sophia Patrey (Woodridge, IL/Downers Grove North) and first-year Katherine Lacy (Bloomington, IN/Bloomington South). Lacy has a team-leading 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist), while Patrey (4 goals) and Mahan (2 goals) have a team-high three assists apiece and Happe has netted four goals. On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore goalkeeper Aubree Empie (Carmel, IN/Carmel) has logged 1305 minutes between the posts, making 59 saves and allowing just 11 goals for a miniscule 0.76 goals-against average.
