AUSTIN, TX – College Sports Communicators (CSC) has announced the 2024 Academic All-America Teams, and the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) was represented by Ohio Wesleyan senior Brady West (Dublin, OH/Dublin) and DePauw senior Alec McCarty (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville), who made the second and third teams respectively.
West, a finance major, has a 3.66 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and is a two-time All-NCAC Academic Honor Roll honoree. This is West's second national academic honor as he earned United Soccer Coaches Second-Team Scholar All-America nods last year.
On the field, West was named the 2024 NCAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned his third-straight first-team All-NCAC honor for his efforts. In eight conference matchups, the senior and his backline bolstered a defense that allowed just four goals in 720:00 minutes of action for the second-lowest goals-against-average in the league at 0.50 and the second-most shutouts with five. Ohio Wesleyan finished the 2024 season with a 6-0-2 conference record, an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament, and ranked second in the NCAC in fewest goals allowed (19) and scoring margin (+1.50 goals/game).
McCarty, a biochemistry major, has a 3.96 cumulative GPA and has been named to both the DePauw's Dean's List and the athletics department's Tiger Pride Honor Roll. He is also a two-time NCAC Academic Honor Roll honoree.
This season, McCarty earned second-team All-NCAC honors for the third straight year after helping the Tigers to a 3-2-3 conference finish and a spot in the NCAC Tournament. He garnered NCAC all-tournament honors as the Tigers won the tournament title with wins over Ohio Wesleyan and Denison to earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2016.
To be eligible for the CSC national award, a student-athlete had to be a key contributor who participated in 90 percent of the team's games or started at least 66 percent of the team's games. The student-athlete had to be on the team's active roster for at least two years and, most importantly, had to possess a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Additionally, before being considered for the Academic All-American award, the nominee needed to first be selected as a CSC Academic All-District award winner.
