DePauw Takes Fall Lead In NCAC All-Sports Race 12/4/2024 11:00:00 AM Share: CLEVELAND, OH -- DePauw University earned two outright league titles during the fall season to take the early lead in the race for the 2024-25 North Coast Athletic Conference All-Sports Championship. The Tigers posted top-four finishes in all seven fall championship sports, claiming both the football and women's cross country titles, while women's soccer took second, volleyball earned a share of second, men's cross country placed third, field hockey claimed a share of third and men's soccer earned fourth. DePauw closed out the fall season with 66.5 points and a three-and-a-half-point lead over Denison (63.0) for the coveted Dennis M. Collins All-Sports Trophy. The Big Red earned two outright titles after capturing the women's soccer and volleyball crowns and sharing the league title in both field hockey and men's soccer. Wittenberg sits in third after posting top-four finishes in six of the seven fall sports. The Ohio Tigers took second in both men's and women's cross country, earned a share of second in volleyball, recorded a share of third in field hockey, and posted a fourth-place finish in both football and women's soccer. Ohio Wesleyan sits in fourth with 56.0 points and its fall was highlighted by field hockey and men's soccer both capturing a share of their respective NCAC titles, while volleyball earned a share of second and women's cross country claimed third. Kenyon checks in at fifth with 43.5 points, while Oberlin, which won the league title in men's cross country, currently sits in sixth with 42.0 points. Wooster is seventh with 39.0 points, while Hiram follows in eighth with 25.0 points and Wabash (24.0) rounds out the fall standings. The All-Sports champion earns the Dennis M. Collins All-Sports Trophy, given annually to the school that performs the best across the NCAC's 23 sports. Eleven points are awarded for a first-place finish, ten for a second, nine for a third, and so on. Men's and women's performances are combined, exemplifying the North Coast's commitment to equity and balance among programs. Wooster won three of the first four All-Sports championships, interrupted only by Denison in year two. Ohio Wesleyan followed with a six-year run, leading to titles by Wooster (twice), Wittenberg (once), Denison (nine), OWU (twice), and then a tie between Denison and OWU in 2009. Wittenberg earned its second All-Sports title in 2010, followed by Denison in 2011 and DePauw in 2012. Denison then claimed back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014, before DePauw regained the championship in 2015. The Big Red reclaimed the title after the 2015-16 academic year, followed by DePauw in 2017 before Denison once again earned back-to-back titles the next two years. An all-sports trophy was not awarded in 2020 or 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Big Red then secured three-straight titles from 2022-24 to collect the last five trophies. Denison leads the way with 180 team championships during the NCAC's 41 playing seasons. Ohio Wesleyan is next with 163 titles, followed by Kenyon (141), Wittenberg (123), Allegheny (119), Wooster (85), DePauw (47), Wabash (35), Oberlin (27) Case Western Reserve (9), and Hiram and Earlham (2).
