GRANVILLE, OH - Denison (19-4) captured the 2024 NCAC Men's Tennis Tournament title on Sunday, April 28, on their home tennis courts in Granville, Ohio. The Big Red defeated Kenyon (14-8), 5-1, winning their fourth-straight and their 11th overall NCAC tournament title in program history.
Denison began the day with a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The Big Red combo of
Ethan Green (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline) and
Kael Shah (Nairobi, Kenya/ES American School Barcelona (Spain)) secured an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Andy Mackler (Lake Mary, FL/Seminole) and
Jacob Patterson (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) at No. 3 doubles collected a narrow 8-7 victory. In No. 2 doubles, the Kenyon duo of
Rishil Kondapaneni (Cumming, GA/South Forsyth) and
Eric Zhang (Barrington, RI/Barrington) collected a hard-fought 8-3 victory.
In singles play, Denison captured three points with Mackler earning the first win at No. 5 in straight sets (6-1, 6-0). Patterson claimed the Big Red's fourth point at No. 1 singles in straight sets (6-1, 6-3), followed by
Ryan Patrick (Darien, CT/Laurel Springs) at No. 4 singles, also in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) to clinch the win for the Big Red.
As conference tournament champions, Denison has earned the league's automatic bid into the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament. The NCAA Division III field will be announced at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, at NCAA.com.
