Denison Men’s Tennis Claims NCAA Second Round Win 5/11/2024 3:15:00 PM Share: WHITEWATER, WI - No. 11 ranked Denison (19-5) claimed a 5-0 victory over No. 32 Grinnell (25-4) in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The win advances the Big Red into the third round, which will be played Sunday, May 12. Denison will take on the winner of No. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater and No. 18 Gustavus Adolphus on the campus of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 1:00 p.m. Denison took a 3-0 lead over Grinnell after doubles, as sophomore duo Kael Shah (Nairobi, Kenya/ES American School Barcelona (Spain)) and Ethan Green (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline) won 8-2 at the No. 1 flight, sophomore Jacob Patterson (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) and senior Andy Mackler (Lake Mary, FL/Seminole) took an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, and senior Malin Gonela (Columbus, OH/Wellington School) and junior Colin Gramley (Sharon, PA/Shady Side Academy) posted an identical score of 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. In singles, Shah recorded 6-3, 6-0 victories for the first singles win at No. 2, while Mackler tallied his own 6-3, 6-0 victories at the No. 5 flight to give the Big Red the team victory. Denison heads into the third round of play with a 4-10 record in the NCAA Tournament. Washington University in St. Louis will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 21-24 at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
