ST. LOUIS, MO – After a competitive weekend at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Central Regional Men’s Championships, Denison juniors
Ethan Green (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline) and
Kael Shah (Nairobi, Kenya/ ES American School Barcelona (Spain)) advanced to the ITA Cup, which is scheduled for October 10-13, 2024.
Green picked up five wins in the singles championship, besting
Evan Walther of Wheaton (6-1, 6-1),
Alejandro Gonzalez (Monterrey, Mexico/Citizens) of Kenyon (6-7 (10-12), 6-3, 6-3),
Alexander Ekstrand of UChicago (7-6 (7-4), 6-2),
Erick Kuo of WashU (withdrew), and teammate Shah (6-4, 1-0 (ret.)) before eventually defeating
Ansh Shah of Case Western (2-6, 6-1, 7-5) to win the Regional Championship. With the title, Green earns All-American status and a spot at the ITA Cup.
In doubles action, Green and Shah, the 2024 NCAC Doubles Team of the Year, led Denison with a runner-up finish after the tandem tallied four wins. The pair defeated
Bennett Dickerson (Nashville, TN/University School of Nashville) and
Anthony VanOyen (Dexter, MI/Skyline) of Wooster (8-0),
Justin Penados and
Rafeal Lessa of North Central (8-1), Big Red teammates
Aayush Kishore (South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick) and
Ryan Patrick (Darien, CT/Laurel Springs) (8-1), and
Patricio Garcio Mauriel Pasuel and
Stefan Hester of WashU (8-5). In the championship match, the pair fell 6-3, 6-4 to
Emil Grantcharov and
Derek Hsieh of UChicago to earn second-place and a spot at the ITA Cup.
