North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week | October 7, 2025

Men’s Cross Country – Liam Newman, Oberlin
Oberlin senior Liam Newman (Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee) paced the Yeomen at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational, placing fourth overall in a field of 207 runners. The senior was the second Division III runner to finish the 8,000-meter course and crossed the line in a career-best time of 26:03.

Women’s Cross Country – Zoe Ward, Ohio Wesleyan
Ohio Wesleyan junior Zoe Ward (Columbus, OH/Worthington Christian) won the OWU Invitational, placing first overall in a field of 139 runners. Ward crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 21:52.1 in the 6,000-meter race and helped lead the Battling Bishops to a first-place team finish with 30 points.

Field Hockey – Hannah Zaiser, DePauw
DePauw first-year forward Hannah Zaiser (St. Louis, MO/Parkway West) scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute of overtime to lift the Tigers to a 1-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. The goal was the first of her collegiate career and came on her only shot of the game. The win extended DePauw’s winning streak to four games and kept the Tigers undefeated in NCAC play.

Football (Offense) – Tyler Green, Denison
Denison sophomore quarterback Tyler Green (Concord, NC/Cannon) led the Big Red to a 35-20 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday, throwing for 305 yards and three touchdowns while completing 26 of 34 passes. With Denison holding a one-point lead early in the fourth quarter, Green orchestrated a decisive 14-play, 74-yard scoring drive that chewed up nearly eight minutes of clock and ended with a touchdown to extend the lead. He later capped the win with a two-yard rushing score in the final minute to help secure the victory.

Football (Defense) – Braydon Hudson, Wooster
Wooster senior linebacker Braydon Hudson (North Liberty, IN/Washington) anchored the Fighting Scots’ defense in a 14-12 win over Wittenberg on Saturday. The senior posted a team-high nine tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack for a loss of nine yards. Hudson’s efforts helped the Scots’ defense hold the Tigers to just 194 yards of total offense and nine first downs in the conference matchup.

Women’s Golf – Julia Gulla, John Carroll
John Carroll first-year Julia Gulla (Sagamore Hills, OH/Nordonia) earned medalist honors at the JCU Fall Invitational, finishing first in a field of 56 golfers on the 6,200-yard Manakiki Golf Course. The rookie shot a 79 in the opening round before carding an even-par 72 on Sunday for a two-round score of 151 (+7). The performance marked her fourth medalist trophy of the season, and her second-round score of 72 trimmed one stroke off her previous program record set on September 7.

Men’s Soccer – Alfredo Campos, Wabash
Wabash junior midfielder Alfredo Campos (Oakland, CA/Aspire Lionel Wilson College Prep Academy) scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to lift the Little Giants to a 2-1 victory over Wittenberg on Saturday, handing the Tigers their first loss of the season. The goal, which was Campos’ first of the year, broke a 1-1 tie as the match neared the end of regulation.

Women’s Soccer – Julianna Granetzke, Kenyon
Kenyon senior forward Julianna Granetzke (Harrisburg, NC/Hickory Ridge) scored the game-winning goal in the 48th minute to lift the Owls to a 1-0 victory over Wooster on Saturday. The goal, which was assisted by senior defender Brooke Heis (Cincinnati, OH/Forest Hills), was Granetzke’s second of the season and secured Kenyon’s first win over Wooster since 2021.

Men’s Swimming & Diving – Chase Smith, Kenyon
Kenyon first-year diver Chase Smith (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) won the 1-meter event at the UIndy Quad Meet, where the Owls fell to Division II opponents Nova Southeastern (176-93), Carson-Newman (157-112), and UIndy (235-46). In his collegiate debut, Smith topped a field of five divers with a score of 450.30 to earn first place.

Women’s Swimming & Diving – Kelsey Van Eldik, Kenyon
Kenyon sophomore Kelsey Van Eldik (Newcastle, Australia/Merewether) was the Owls’ top performer at the UIndy Quad Meet, where Kenyon defeated Carson-Newman (157.5-121.5) and fell to Nova Southeastern (198-81) and Indianapolis (197.5-83). The sophomore placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.12 and followed with a third-place finish in the 200-yard breast, touching in 2:22.41.

Volleyball – Izzy Cozzie, Wooster
Wooster senior outside hitter Izzy Cozzie (Huron, OH/Huron) recorded a career-high 17 kills to help lead the Fighting Scots to a 3-1 win over Oberlin on Friday. The senior tallied a double-double with 12 digs, to go along with four service aces and three assists. Cozzie notched eight of her kills in the opening set and then delivered the go-ahead kill in the fourth, giving Wooster a 26-25 lead and capping an 11-4 run that produced the team’s first lead in the set since 13-12.

Milestones & Records (Sept. 29-Oct. 5)

DePauw, Field Hockey – Senior forward Hailey Nowak (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park & River Forest) reached the 100-point milestone for her career during DePauw’s 3-1 win over Marian (Wis.) on Sunday. Nowak netted two goals in the win, the Tiger’s first and third scores, to surpass the century mark and now has 101 career points.

Kenyon, Field Hockey – Junior forward Maren Lawrence (Delaware, OH/Columbus Academy) recorded her second hat trick in as many games, scoring three times in a 4-0 win over Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. It marked the second hat trick of her career, with the first coming the previous week against Transylvania.

Oberlin, Men’s Soccer – Junior forward Michael Dolton (Trenton, Ontario/Saint Paul’s Secondary School) recorded his first career hat trick in a 3-2 win over Capital, scoring all three goals on five shots to account for every Oberlin score in the match. The performance marked the junior’s first career multi-goal game and moved him to second in the NCAC in goals (7) and fourth in points (14).

Wabash, Football – Senior kicker Brody Rucker (Haskell, OK/Coweta) made two field goals on Saturday in the Little Giants’ 31-28 loss at John Carroll to move into third place on the program’s career field goal list. The senior connected from 49 and 38 yards for his 26th and 27th career field goals, surpassing Ian MacDougall for third all-time at Wabash.
